I'm surprised nobody has started a thread on this before now... The Nintendo Revolution is supposed to be released later this year (I don't have a date, does anyone know for sure when?), and supposedly, it is supposed to be a real step up for video game systems entirely. Nintendo has said that people will definitely be able to play GC games and, I think, cds in the new system, along with being able to connect to the internet. The memory cards are supposed to be huge but I'm not sure how many gigabytes (I think they gave a figure in GB instead of MB) total of data each can hold. I also found out its graphics are supposed to be extremely realistic, which makes me VERY HAPPY! I talked to a guy who attended one of Nintendo's promos for the system, and he explained to me how the graphics worked. He talked about how the human eye can see like 20000 shades of black and white, and how systems like the GC and PS2 have, before, only been able to identify and show like 5000 of those colors where, supposedly, the Revolution will be able to show, get this, 15,000!!!!! It's almost gonna be like witnessing the game take place in real life. I'm already going nuts about it, I can't wait for it come out! ;D The thing that excited me most, though, is that there is supposed to be a feature on it where people can download roms of their favorite past Nintendo games to play on the Revolution!!! I would think, and hope, ST would be one pf them, but this opens up a whole range of possibilities with what Nintendo can do with the system! For example, they can add bonus levels to the roms of past games and maybe create a selection of older games updated with more modern graphics!! ;D The only problem I see in this is that it may make the old NES and SNES consoles even more decrepit since people would be able to play all those old games on one modern system instead of needing to get a bunch of older systems... Oh well, I guess maybe I need to get with the times... Anyway, am I the only one here who is really excited about this, or are other people also anxious for this system to hit the market? Has anyone else heard about any other features of the Revolution? Do you think that maybe ST 3 will have a better shot at being made for the REV or not??

First, here's what I've heard about it. The Revolution will be backwards compatible with every Nintendo system ever made in the past (that included the GameBoy systems as well...but probably not DS). The roms that will be available will be accessable through the internet connection the console will provide and you can buy old games for older systems for a fairly cheap price (I heard about $8 or so). The console itself will have 4 parts to it: The place where the game disc will go (the discs are actually going to be full size discs...finally), the spot to plug in the A/V cables, the spot to plug in the power cord, and the internet plug. That's it. The console will, so I've heard, be a little bigger than a VHS tape (you remember VHS right? hehe). As for StarTropics being available on it...I heard that every game ever made for the old systems will be available, which would include ST and ST:ZR. And as for them adding bonus levels and such, it's an awesome thought, but I doubt that they'll waste time adding on to games that are over a decade old. A system like Revolution almost makes me want to buy it solely because it's going to be backwards compatible with every Nintendo system from the past. It sounds like an ingenius idea, but will it be as big a hit as they're making it out to be? That, my friends, is the question. Only time will tell. I imagine that they'll probably release Revolution around the holiday season, but I'm not completely sure. Oh, and as for your last question, here's my thought. If a ST3 was ever to be made, it would probably be made for the DS rather than a console...but that's just my thought. I hope that I'm wrong on that assumption, though hehe

I agree with every one of those statements. I'm thinking that I may have to buy a Revolution purely for the SSB game...and any possible sequels that Nintendo may make for a certain tropical-set game

I've gotta say...the list of NES games that will be downloadable for the Revolution is not the most expansive list. This also means that for Startropics and Zoda's Revenge to make it onto such an "exclusive" (if you will) list means that somebody is making noise somewhere (maybe it's the petition?? ) that caused this decision to be made. All I can say is that I hope they don't think that bringing the games back to the forefront will quiet us for very long! lol

I'm VERY happy ST and ST II will be on there!!!!!! However, I'm very surprised it's on there though... If you notice, not all the games were originally made by Nintendo (i.e. Final Fantasy Square soft), and I'm wondering what rhyme or reason they had in selecting the games. I know just about all the games that Nintendo made for the NES and SNES are on there, which may have just been the reason why ST and ST II were included in the list. Of course, I'll be optimistic and say its because they're gonna be realeasing ST III soon.

Your descriptions and information of the Revolution have renewed my hopes in this system. This new wave of consoles is the one I was planning to buy a system from, so it was either a 360, PS3 or Rev. Then I read some E3 information and my high hopes were shattered. The idea of playing Star Tropics on a new system gets me really excited though. I'm going to try to be calm about it and just see what they produce. I don't really want to get a Xbox 360 or PS3... I'm a Nintendo fan, tried and true. No, I don't have a Gameboy or Gamecube, but I love my NES, SNES and N64, and I want to add a Revolution the list and be proud of it.

Other things Nintendo may or may not forget to put in their download list: |1.| Virtual Boy games with Classic Red and Color modes (like Mario's Tennis, Teleroboxer, Red Alarm, Galactic Pinball, Mario Clash, etc.), |2.| If Nintendo creates a keyboard and mouse for the Revolution, they'll probably allow use to play their small library of their PC games (like Mario Teaches Typing),, |3.| Powerpad games (like World Class Track Meet, Super Team Games, Dance Aerobics, Short Order/Eggsplode!, etc.), |4.| SNES Mouse games (like Mario Paint, Vegas Stakes, Mario & Wario (Japan-Only), etc.), |5.| R.O.B. games (like Gyromite and Stack-Up), |6.| Japanese console games (like MOTHER 1/NES EarthBound, the previous Fire Emblem games before Fuuin no Tsurugi, Sins and Punishment, Famicom Detective I and II, the Custom Robos on N64, etc.), |7.| Famicom Disk System games (like Super Mario Bros. 2 (a.k.a. The Lost Levels), and Famicom Grand Prix I and II), |8.| Cancelled Games/Beta-Prototypes/Demo Cartridges (like Star Fox 2, N64 MOTHER 3/EarthBound 64, Kirby's Air Ride, Kirby Tilt & Tumble 2, etc.), |9.| A Game Boy Player (w/Super Game Boy features) as an add-on to play GB/GBC/GBA/GB Evolution games on the Nintendo Revolution, |10.| Bandai Satellaview games (like BS F-ZERO, BS Zelda, BS Mario games, etc.), |11.| Light Gun games (like Duck Hunt, Yoshi's Safari, Battle Clash, Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, Hogan's Alley, Gumshoe, Barker Bill's Trick Shooting, Tin Star, etc.), |12.| Nintendo Color TV Games (which were only released in Japan. For more info, click here), and |13.| Nintendo's Japanese and American coin-op arcade games (like Sheriff, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong JR., Donkey Kong 3, Mario Bros., Sky Skipper, Space Fever, Helifire, and Radarscope). |14.| Nintendo-related games for the Phillips CD-i console (like The Legend of Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, The Adventure of Link: Faces of Evil, and Hotel Mario). |15.| 64DD games (like the Mario Artist series, SimCity 64, and the F-ZERO X Expansion Pack), AND |16.| Some card game simulator that allows you to play different Nintendo-related card games online (like Hanafuda, Pocket Monsters/Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Card Hero).

The virtual boy! Oh man, I still play on mine now and then. I hope they have some of those games for the REV, it would be cool, and it'd be appropriate for them to be on there anyway.

One thing I have to point out is that its highly unlikely that the memory cards will be in the gigabytes, it would be very expensive to make, therefore being very expensive to buy. The Revolution will, however work with gamecube memory cards and will have 512 mb of flash memory built in.

I was just thinking... Star Tropics on the Revolution would be awesome. I mean, just think about holding that crazy controller in your hand and firing your yo-yo again and again. Since you can hold the controller in one hand, you'd really feel like you were there on C-Island pummelling mummies (or the skull dodo birds for those with finer tastes )

Sometime in 2006 supposedly. There isn't an exact data yet for its release.
