Has anyone else noticed the recent trend Nintendo has made of resurrecting old series? For instance: Punch Out!! Wii And now: A Boy and His Blob has been announced. Next on the roster: Startropics Wii/DS/3? Let's Hope So!!!

Hopefully yes!!! But.. who knows how long that'll take.. Maybe they got their idea from Captain Rainbow's cast. Hopefully the team that noticed Punch Out, noticed its brother game StarTropics too. ... but for now... one can only hope... and draw comics.

A new A Boy and his Blob?? Wow, never saw that one coming. Could Contra be next?? Oh wait... Could Mega Man be next?? Oh wait... Could Spy Hunter be next?? Oh wait... Could Chrono Trigger be next?? Oh wait... *kinda* Yeah, this is not a new trend though. If a company thinks an old name is viable enough *and there's gotta be plenty of hints to make them think that*, then they'll look at resurrecting a series. This is where, at least for me, the glimmer of hope for a new ST comes from... Thinking a little about it though, ABaHB has a number of components that would not only be good for the Wii *imagine literally throwing the jelly beans* but has a playful enough story and feel to it that it'll appeal to enough of the Wii-ers to make it a potential pickup. /Will then be waiting for a new Golgo-13 video game to be released after ST3 gets picked up...

Oh I WISH Chrono Trigger had a TRUE remake... or a sequel... >=(
You forgot:
-Bionic Commando -Golden Axe -The Great Gianna Sisters DS (talk about retro!)
I'd mention Fire Emblem 1's remake... but.. FE is a popular franchise.. so..
Same with -Street Fighter IV / Street Fighter 2 HD Remix

rofl A Boy and his Blob? I saw a trailer and it looks kind of different than the rest of the series.
Man after this stuff, if they don't make another StarTropics I'm gonna strangle someone.

I think that Startropics is definitely deserving of a remake. Remaking old games has definitely been a popular trend lately so hopefully Nintendo eventually gives Startropics what it deserves ;D.

Today they released Adventure Island: The Beginning. And another remake in the works is Super Contra (rebyrth?) And yet another onem TMNT IV, Turtles in Time is being remade for download. There is definitely a trend going on, and I think it's all thanks to Konami for starting it, and Capcom for following it.

At some blog some time ago, since I can't find the article, I'll provide with pics. ;D I love this trend, by the way. I hope they keep at it, since today's games aren't really as exciting as back then. XD

*Ooooooooooooooozzzzzzzzzessss with delight, doesn't comment what the ooze is* Both of those look OMGWTFBBQ great to me. That bottom left pic has me confused though. It looks like they're trying to duplicate the first boss of the FIRST Contra (not Super Contra) and setting it against a NY city background, instead of the island where things supposedly began. Color palette also seems overly bright for what I'd think Contra is aiming for, but that's getting nitpicky... Now if they did a remake in that supposed style of TMNT IV for TMNT II and/or even III, I might never leave the house again...

A TMNT IV remake? In 3D?! Though it sounds good, I'm afraid that they're gonna destroy the '80's charm in favor of the "modern" Turtles. I pray they at least don't mangle the soundtrack. Hopefully, though, they'll combine the best of the arcade and SNES versions into one package, as follows: *All the enemy types used in both versions, and with no limit to how many show up at once (none of that "4 Foot limit" crud like in the SNES) *"Sewer Surfin'" starts as a normal stage, has a fight with the Rat King after the main part, then goes into the SNES version's bonus stage. *The SNES-exclusive Technodrome stage, with Tokka, Rahzar, and the Shredder-Tank. *"Neon Night-Riders", like "Sewer Surfin'", plays as normal stage-Krang boss-bonus stage. *Bebop and Rocksteady in "Skull and Crossbones". You can't have any 80's version video game without them. *The final Shredder fight starts with him as normal sword-wielding Arcade version, then he mutates to Super Shredder after the initial defeat. -------------------- EDIT: According to this, it's gonna be based solely on the Arcade version, so no Technodrome. ninja-pizza.blogspot.com/2009/05/new-turtles-in-time-game.htmlOn the plus side, the old music is staying in, so that's a relief. ;D

The console versions may have been graphically inferior, but they had more levels. TMNT2, for example, doesn't have as many levels in the arcade as in the console, which is a shame.. If this is a remake, I'm pretty sure they won't be using the current Turtles forms. I mean, we're in the 3rd generation of TMNT already ("Return to the sewers"), so there's no way they'll change the WHOLE content of the game to adapt it to today's standards... they'll most likely just upgrade to 3D graphics, and music to CD quality. -slightly off topic- A game like StarTropics full of lingo, jokes, and references of the 80's, is probably a game that if remade would probably have to undergo some changes.. But since they're already on the VC (with one minor change each) I guess it's not a problem. -back on topic- Here's hoping they keep the 2P Battle Mode. And Krang's boss fight was EPIC! -- As for Contra, I'm currently STARTING out on the games (sure, I've played them very few times when I was a kid) so I don't really know much about them.. but the first boss is basically a trademark for the franchise. It's like Devil from Mega Man (the single eyed blob monster). Regardless, these are pretty awesome games that I'm glad are gonna be released. Sure, Pokemon Gold and Silver are also being remade... but we need to introduce THESE punishing games to the kids of today. BD It can't be all "Point or touch to win".

Seeing Little Mac's return to the ring gave me a major surge of hope for the revival of Startropics.

The console versions may have been graphically inferior, but they had more levels. TMNT2, for example, doesn't have as many levels in the arcade as in the console, which is a shame.. Maybe so, but the sense of action that the Arcade version had is simply not there. In the TMNT II Arcade, you can get mobbed by up to six Foots at once (and if you go too long without dying, you can get mobbed by up to ten!). In the NES version, you face no more than three at a time due to sprite limits. Most fans will say that the Arcade version is superior, despite less levels, simply because it's more challenging. TMNT IV is more or less the same opinion. Me, I'm of mixed opinion. As far as TMNT II is concerned, I prefer the Arcade. However, when it comes to TMNT IV, I'm torn between Arcade challenge and SNES enhancements. I dunno... The screenshot of Mike looks too serious to be based on his '80's look. Here's hoping they keep the 2P Battle Mode. And Krang's boss fight was EPIC! Meh... the Battle Mode was pointless. I'm all for Krang, though. To me, he represents 80's Turtles. As for Contra, I'm currently STARTING out on the games (sure, I've played them very few times when I was a kid) so I don't really know much about them.. but the first boss is basically a trademark for the franchise. It's like Devil from Mega Man (the single eyed blob monster). The Three Golden Rules of Contra (also applies to Gradius, which I like) 1. Shoot everything that moves 2. Don't let ANYTHING touch you! 3. Power-up and dominate (addendum: Spread Guns are your friend) Regardless, these are pretty awesome games that I'm glad are gonna be released. Sure, Pokemon Gold and Silver are also being remade... but we need to introduce THESE punishing games to the kids of today. BD It can't be all "Point or touch to win". Hey, I liked Gold & Silver, and I do want to get one of those remakes. However, I do agree that we need to get some blood pumping for the true classics.

Spread guns=Contra win *and I'm one of those who doesn't use Konami codes, so hmph for punishing*. But yes, compared to many of the games today, Contra and Super C, in particular, could be called agonizing, but those are where my personal VG's preferences and skills have tended to be, which is why I scoff at so much modern crap, I have to believe... I can live without the Technodrome for TMNT though *but it would've been nice*, I'm VERY pleased the music will stay, that's an important aspect of those games, to me. I think I'll be very pleased with the final results.
