Hrrrmm.... very interesting theory!
Although, I think the story goes that Genyo Takeda read a French book as a child about kids stranded on an island... I forget the title of the book, but I think that's how the story goes. He was inspired to make StarTropics. He loves the game, from what I know.

I agree mostly with Mitch on this one. However, I thought that Genyo got the idea for ST after he took a vacation to the South Pacific (Fiji?), and was inspired by his travels throughout... However, if it is that book you describe MK that Genyo got his inspiration from, it sounds a lot like "Lord of the Flies," if you ask me...

Hmmm, while that is a lot of coincedinces in one game, I'm not entirely convinced. Mike was/is a popular name, and Goonies looks more like a Legacy of the Wizard ripoff (maybe visa versa) than StarTropics.

LOL, no, Goonies is just a "heart-touching" 80's movie about a group of friends who follow a local legend about a pirate who supposedly hid his greatest treasure in their town. They have to go through all his booby traps to find the treasure, and are being chased meanwhile by a bunch of greedy criminals who want the treasure (if it exists) themselves. When they find it, they use the money to stop the developers who wanna rip down their neighborhood to build a shopping center or golf course or something. The video games of it were made after the movie became a big hit in 1985. I really don't believe the producers/directers were expecting the movie would become the big hit it did (and yes, it got REAL popular REAL quick). I even think Steven Spielberg was involved somehow... Why/how do I know this? It's one of my mom's favorite movies, and I'm an 80's nuts, I gotta know these things!! Thus, I'm really thinking that ST being based off the movie is quite a longshot, next to impossible...
