This year has been a great year for fans of classic games and franchises. A lot of companies seem to be going back to basics with their IPs. As far as Nintendo is concerned, they've revived some more franchises this year too. -Donkey Kong Country Returns -Kirby Epic Yarn (hardly can call it a revival, but oh well) -Kid Icarus -Metroid Other M (in a sense, because it's back to its non-FPS roots). -Golden Sun Dark Dawn -Sin & Punishment 2 Not to mention we also got: -NSMBW -Punch Out! -Excite Bike World Rally Then there are the third parties: -Sonic 4 (SEGA) -Contra Hard Corps (Konami... wait, wasn't this a Genesis title?) -Castlevania (Konami... wait, a 2 player Castlevania!?) -Mortal Kombat 9 It's a great year for those who loved the 90's and late 80's. Looks like Nintendo is digging up old franchises again. Hopefully someday they'll find StarTropics and decide to make a sequel! Hey, I was worried how they'd re-imagine Kid Icarus, since the first game was basically a Metroid clone, so StarTropics being a Zelda clone, could be reimagined for all we know! (Dungeon sections, and overworld puzzle sections? Oh wait.. XD) Hope all of you guys are still supporting the series.

My eyes are sternly focused on Donkey Kong Country Returns. It's been way to long since a game in that series came out and it's one of the main classics series that I've always wished would come back (not as much as ST of course ). I really hope that this goes well, I'm a little bit concerned since this game isn't being developed by Rare (like the previous 3 were) but the trailer looked fairly good so hopefully I can have high hopes for it ;D.

I forgot another one.... and this might be a heart stopper for some of us, due to its close links with StarTropics.... PILOT WINGS RESORT has been announced for the 3DS! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it... To be able to fly over C-Island again.... oh just the sight of it in new-gen graphics... T_T I hope they include it, Crescent Island. And wasn't PilotWings a Western only game? What's keeping StarTropics from being released after this!?

I figured somebody would post on the E3 stuff. I'm majorly stoked on the New Kid Icarus and the new Zelda game (it really does look great, as always!). But yes, it's been a great year for classic VG'ers. The new Contra kicks a**, NSMBW and Punch Out! turned out excellent and the series reboots look to be on track. Strange you mentioned the Pilotwings reboot vs ST shini. I was just thinking about this earlier today. Now with Kid Icarus (and actually, Now Now with Pilotwings) and Donkey Kong getting reboots, what classic Nintendo-owned (we'd be here for 20 years trying to name all of them from ALL VG companies) series video games haven't gotten modern reboots/entries? When I ask that, I mean classic series as in games with 2 in the series already and a third not yet announced, like ST, and not games like FF Crystal Chronicles vs. FF Legends vs. original FF or Super Mario Land vs. Super Mario World, b/c they're, for the most part, the same basic gameplay/universe/ characters/basic storyline, with some exceptions. ST is the only NES one I can think of that would assuredly qualify on that list currently. Golden Sun would've until this E3 and Dark Dawn's announcement, same with Pilotwings, and I think Pikmin would've if it wasn't that Miyamoto confirmed a Pikmin 3 is in development currently? EDIT: After some deep Wiki-ing, depending on your view of "classic," X (GB Japan) and Xscape (Dsi) may qualify, Battle Clash and Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge both for the SNES, Wrecking Crew vs. Wrecking Crew 98 (though would you lump that in with the Mario world and the 400 duplicates it's had?), & Shin Onigashima and BS Shin Onigashima might but the 2nd has the same plot as the first and is a sorta rehash of the first. Hmmm, interesting. Looks as that if Nintendo is wanting to look back to reboot/redo some old games, especially series, of theirs, their field of choice is getting rather small, and ST might have to be up near the top... /Not that I'm trying to get hopes up, but d**n, the list of candidates for them is really tiny...

BREAKING NEWS, my friends. (Still no ST, so don't get your hopes up... too high.) Apparently, according to Reggie, Nintendo will be remaking some oldschool games. kotaku.com/5566935/mega-man-2-yoshis-island-among-teased-3ds-sorta+remakes"...Mega Man 2, Castlevania, Urban Champion, Kid Icarus, Yoshi's Island, Smash Ping Pong, Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Tennis, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Mystery of Murasame Castle..." Reggie also said that they wouldn't all consist of simple "remakes"... Whatever that means. Holy macaroni!! They are revisiting old franchises!!!! *Fangasmatomic implosion*

)splooge That list looks to be one of those that they'll "expand upon" as time goes on. Hopefully down the line, ST will be one of the classics they do. Nintendo won't at least have to pay anybody any of the rights to do a 3ds version of it when that time comes...
