Hello.
I am bored so I decided to make a thread to ask people which one they liked better.
I personally like the first game alot more than the second, I liked the story and music way better than Startropics II. The only thing I like better in the sequel was that you no longer move in squares, you can move in 8 directions! That's pretty awesome I guess.
So um.. What does everyone else think?

I like both... but I don't know... there's a lot to look at... I liked ST1s music better, but ST2 has more variety (e.g. dungeon music never got old, cause there was variety). Zoda had his own theme song in ST2, it was less blocky... But ST1 had the Sub-C. ^^ nothing beats that and its music. The overworld theme is better in ST1 than ST2 which wasn't as good. ST1 had the whole island concept very well thought of. Time travelling wasn't that original, IMO, but it was still fun none the less...

I never played the sequel but from what I've seen and heard (gameplay videos, music) I can safely say the first is better. The music of the second one, although it has more variety, is extremely repetitive. While there are handfuls of great music in ST1, ST2 only has a few that a worth the listen. As for the entire idea for the plot, I can't say much, but I don't think ST2 is that StarTropics-y since you're not on islands that much, which kinda defeats the purpose of the Tropics.
ST1 had a very thoughtout title. Yeah, it's in the Tropics, but eventually you will go on an alien ship and that's where the Star comes from. With ST2, it didn't really seem that way until the end back at C-Island while with ST1 it was everpresent.

ST is better that ST2.
ST has moxie, which ST2 kinda lacks.
They're both high quality.
But islands beat Da Vinci.

Yeah, the main reason I didn't like ST2 as much was because of the time travelling idea. Plus I wasn't a big fan of the music. But it's still a good game!
Oh and thanks for welcoming me, shinigamihedgehog!

Ya things were great back then (not that they aren't now). It was nice having Mitch and Windapple active (I never really got to kinow Boocola).
Anyway I choose Startropics because I found that it beat Startropics II in many areas such as gameplay and level design.

I still stand with the original StarTropics as being the best. Gimme the Super Nova over the Katana any day (although the Ultra Psychic Shockwave was pretty freakin' bomb).
I remember those days as well. Hopefully I'll be able to post more often now that summer is over. I just need to figure out a way to hop on the boards at least once a day considering I don't have internet in my new living quarters.

Hmm... tough call. If the first one had the movement capabilities of the second, that would make it my favorite hands down. The music from the first was mostly better, with the exception that Zoda didn't get his own theme (and an awesome theme it is) until ST2. I guess if I had to make that call, I liked the first one better. The Island Yo-Yo is propably the most memorable video game weapon to predate Link's Master Sword. So, ST1 it is.

I definitely go with the first one. But I really didn't like the 8-direction movement, probably just because I got so used to the block movement of StarTropics and it took me a long while to get used to the new style. Also, I am constantly frustrated by the way damage is inflicted in II. I get hit 3-4 times every time an enemy runs into me. Most uncool.

Now that I think of it though, Zoda's Revenge had several gameplay advantages. Multiple floor heights were a definite improvement. But you've got a point about getting hit three or four times when an enemy runs into you. ZR took away the brief period of invincibility after taking a hit, which can be disastrous sometimes. Hmm... Well the margin of favoritism is growing narrower as I think about it, but I'd still have to go with the first.

StarTropics is better than Zoda's Revenge.
However, Zoda's Revenge's movement engine was amazing as a NES game. For the NES's standards, having a a topdown game with platform levels is really advance work for a NES game. It was built really well. It's just that for the ST1 fans it didn't bring the same feel. But when you look at them seperately without comparison, Zoda's Revenge has an amazing engine.

I love both, but Zoda's Revenge is my personal favorite because of its easier (but still challenging) difficulty and the coolness of meeting actual historical figures (and fake ones). It kept the charm of the first without being just another StarTropics with different dungeons. Mike had already been to outer space and inside a whale's belly, so why not let him travel through time?
