Do you have a desire to be a part of the ST3 team? I could really use someone who is talented enough to create sprites. In order to keep things fresh in ST3, it would be nice to have some new enemies and bosses. Unfortunately, I fail at art so this is the only thing holding the game back at the moment.
Because the enemies have to seamlessly blend in with the original characters and the 8-bit style we have, there are some limitations. 1) All sprites created must be made out of a max of 3 unique colors + alpha. 2) Most enemies are 16x16 pixels but could also be 16x32, 32x16, or 32x32. Bosses will be much larger. 3) Most enemies require sprites for looking up, down, left, and right.
I have a list of some enemies I'd like to see in the game but I will not be limiting you to that list. You will have the freedom to design and create enemies that can be included the game as well.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know and I'll give you an enemy to work on. Keep in mind that this is not a paid position. This is done only for the love of StarTropics, as this game is freely available for download. However, you will find your name in the credits should your sprites make it into the game.

Since no one has replied to this, I'm going to try and make some new enemies. Do you guys like this one? Can you even tell what it is supposed to be?

Yup! That was I was going for. I guess it must have turned out decent if you got it. Maybe when you actually see the monster in game, it will become even more obvious.

Seems like a good start to me. Little mini octopi, sharks, and seagulls always seemed to me like natural enemies to have in the game... but I also fail at art so my ability to do such is also limited...

Looks good. I suggest sticking with the NES palette when designing sprites. Max of 3 colors (not including transparency), though in some NES games they do tricks to give objects more colors by overlaying sprites onto another (That's the excuse I use for Mike in my game at least, though it's not supposed to be 100% NES accurate).
I'm sure you know a lot of that stuff though, but just throwing that out their.
As of being pixel artist, I'm not sure if I have time. I could try to help out, but I'm very undevotional with things at the moment.

Thanks guys Since it's so hard to make these sprites, I decided to look at some other non-ST games to see what I could find that might fit in to the ST universe. The lizard creature is from Jurassic Park for the NES. I don't think their the greatest sprites but it could be a neat enemy. This is the only enemy I have actual diagonal sprites for so it can do any kind of movement. I would make it fast and weak and you'd probably find many of them roaming around in a room. All the rest came from one of the Final Fantasy Legends games on the original GameBoy. I took the liberty of coloring them (some colors may be changed if people don't like them, keep in mind that they will look better with a real background). I added the two images under the WIP myself in an effort to turn that thing into a stingray enemy. I think it would be cool if it would jump out of the water and dive bomb you. The crazy octopus thing is for you Coralcola. I hope that's what you had in mind. It reminds me of Zoidberg. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Rnw0D2AdYUWhat is everyone's thoughts on these?

The Octopi and scorpions are just what I had in mind... and yes, I get overwhelming Zoidberg vibes... /Now if there was only a way for the octopi to be able to heal every non-human creature in the rooms after being attacked...

Those are actually supposed to be hermit crabs. I could make the the octopi heal monsters if I wanted to. It's a neat idea and that would certainly be different from all other enemies. Is there some background as to why you would want it to heal or did you just think it would be cool?

I was being sarcastic actually. One of Zoidberg's "quirks" on Futurama is that he seems to not be able to help cure humans who are sick very much (which of course, is most of the crew)... but he does fine with non-humans. But having an enemy that has curing abilities for the other enemies in the room is a VERY interesting idea, indeed... Maybe an evil (colored like red or black) dolphin would be more appropriate in the game for this role, given how the other dolphins in the game have tended to act.

How many new enemies apart from ST1 and ST2 will you include into ST3?

How many new enemies apart from ST1 and ST2 will you include into ST3? That is completely dependent on what kind of enemy sprites I can get my hands on. Unfortunately, that's not really my specialty so I'm limited on what I can make. Now if someone wants to make some custom sprites for me...

Heya ! Any chances of seeing actual bosses be implemented in the editor ? I can't find either C-Snake, Octopus, Zoda itself or the Head from Chapter 6... Maybe I'm just bad though !
