I've never heard of it either, my guess is that its just not that good of an emulator, or your pc is too slow to record with that emulator, try using something like nestopia.

Normally I don't condone the useage of an emulator because it's illegal...but since this is just for the purpose of recording music, I'll throw you a line.
I use the emulator, NESterJ. It has a decent WAVE recorder built into it that I've used for a couple different things. Just make sure that when you're recording the sound, you've got nothing else running cuz otherwise the sound skips about sometimes.
I'm not sure what the website is for it, but if you Google search "NesterJ" you should come up with something.
Good luck.

Actually emulators aren't illegal, especially for older ones because they dont require a BOIS. The thing thats illegal is the ROMs, that is, of course, unless you own the actual cartrige version of the rom you have, and startropics was only offically released in two versions, the united states one and the europe one (Startropics (U) [!].nes and Startropics (E) [!].nes) there is also beta versions and such availible in the full goodNES package but im not entirely sure what they are, (they contain [b1] [b2] [o1] and [o2] suffixes, but im not sure what they mean) i do know that the [!] suffix means that it was the released full version. EDIT: ok, i finally found some info on what those suffixes mean, [!] actually means a verified good dump of the cartridge, means bad dump, [o] means over dump, and there are others for [h] hack alternate [t] trained pirate (copied off an origially pirated cartridge)

Haha, yes, they can be frustrating. I've been tinkering in emulators ever since i was about 10 and I still cant say i know what everything does, except ive come a long way... If you ever have a question about settings or whatnot, go ahead and ask

It may be skipping from it not having enough memory to maintain full speed.
Why not use the NSF?
There's a dump of ST1 on zophar.net

I use RockNES, just because I'm cool like that ;D. I've never tried recording music, but it is a good sold emulator. Like Cannibal, emulators are the bane of my exhistence as well. It took awhile but I actually got the roms for Zelda OoT, Zelda MM, 007: Goldeneye, SSB, Harvest Moon 64, and Mario 64. And thats just for N64, I got GBA, SNES, NES, and even a sega emulator, its just so much faster and easier than buying a bunch of systems
