www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/t/t0379100.htmlStar+Tropic=StarTropic Plural=StarTropics So, coincidentally, the title could mean a group of people or objects affected by or attracted to the stars, or changed in direct response to them. Oddly, these all occur in the game. It's fun when life throws these strange yet amazing events in front of you.

Star=Because you go into space
Tropics=Because you travel to more than one tropical island.
Thats what I think anyway.

Forget the Hollywood mess. If I was host, I'd have Wheel tape on C-Island. :)

Ditto that MJ. Not to sound all mushy mushy or whatever, the name "StarTropics" is, IMO, a beautiful name for a VG, to appropriately match the feeling of the game, as well...

I know that the reason for the name is the aliens and islands!
I was just pointing out the unintentional possible double meaning of the name because it's summer and I have too much time for posting random things in places!
Also, I agree that StarTropics is one of the best VG names ever!
It's one of the best things about the game! It's the icing on the tropical space cake of Japanese descent!

I always associated the Star part of the name with the southern cross and never really thought much about it being aliens and space. And along with everyone else, StarTropics truly is a beautiful name. Sadly the for 2nd game, the ST name doesn't seem as fitting in my opinion.

Even so, that still fits my freaky alternate meaning thing.
Also, in the second game, I think that "Zoda's Revenge" is usually ahead of "StarTropics II" due to it not fitting as well.

I agree completely that Star in StarTropics refers to the Southern Cross. After all Bana always says "Don't despair! Under the Southern Cross anything is possible". It makes alot more sense then Star meaning you go into space. Technically you never even go into space, your just flying over earth. Sub space maybe.

I guess you don't really fly into space, but you're in a space ship. I always though of an island paradise when I hear Star Tropics
