After beating the games so many times I started timing myself. When I was in my prime (say maybe 15 years old....I'm 17 now) I was easily able to beat the game in 70 minutes. I had one glorious day in which I shattered my record and beat the game in 54 minutes. 54 MINUTES! I even had a witness on hand.
Do you guys ever time yourselves?
Note: That was about ST 1 up there, I've never timed myself for ST 2.

I haven't actually had the time to go through and play the entire game straight through before...I should try that some time! As a minor side note on the subject of time...I'm pretty proud of the fact that I beat Super Mario Bros. 1 in 9 minutes

For that particular timing...yes...but normally I can beat the game going through the entire first four worlds and then warping to world 8 via Warp Zone at 4-2...in about 15 minutes...if I don't die lol

The only game I've ever timed myself on is Metroid, in which I beat in about 45 minutes.

I've never really timed myself, but it's less than an hour. The next time I decide to beat it, I'll time myself.
My game is OLD and doesn't save, so I have no choice but to beat it in one sitting. haha

I'm not sure how fast I could do it. I still haven't gotten good enough in the spaceship areas to go through without dying at least once. I'll have to try soon.

How can your game not save? I've never had a problem with saving on any of my games *yet*, including the ones like ST that I've had for 15+ years. I've never heard of a Nintendo game cartridge where the save feature suddenly stops working... Are you sure you it isn't something else that's causing it? Maybe it's just dirty, that problem I have all the time...

Maybe the battery is dead, normally they should last to 15 years, but maybe it's a bad one.

Haha, there's warps like that on all three of the Super Mario Bros. Games. In SMB2 in 1-3 there is a warp where you pick up the red potion thingy and drop it by the tube thingy past the brick wall. If you go through the door created and go down the tube, you warp to world 4. Then in 4-2 there is another warp but on this one you have to carry the potion farther, its hard. And of course on SMB. 3 you can get two whistles in the first world, beat the first world, and then warp straight to world 8.

As for the not saving thing, I bought an old copy of the original final fantasy off ebay and the save only lasts about 4-5 hours, I guess the save battery is old. I heard once that the old save batteries only lasted 7 years, those were the ones that said you should hold in reset while turning the power off, like final fantasy and the older zelda cartridges, but startropics was to new to have an old save battery.

At the end of level 1-2, at the second up and down platform thingy (right before the last pipe) follow the platforms up and jump on top of the top row of bricks and run forward OVER the final pipe and you'll find an area thats called the "WARP ZONE." There, you can warp to worlds 2, 3, or 4 by taking the appropriate pipe. There are actually 3 whistles total in SMB 3 (for those who didn't know). I usually go to world 2 to get the 3rd one, just for kicks, and warp to world 8 to kick Bowser's butt. I hate those tanks those... very annoying if you die at least half way through. I also thought it was funny in the middle of world 8 where the hand grabs you by the nose and pulls you down to the fiery pit below! Hehehehehe, lol

An error in Mario 3 is that in one of the princesses letters to you she says that there's 4 magic whistles, when there's really only 3
