Microsoft being original? The day that happens, shaitain'll be handing out ski passes....
My opinions aside, I'd actually prefer an interface similar to the one used in the Knights of the Old Republic games on the X-Box.

To Coralcola. I can see where you are coming from. I however, feel the exact opposite. Wind Waker is what made me stick with Nintendo. Like I said, there are many Xbox games (and PS2 games) that sound awesome, but the similar graphics really turn me off. I'm kind of appalled by realistic graphics. One of the reasons I play video games is to escape reality, and it really helps me enter a world of fantasy when graphics aren't photorealistic. Oh yeah, and you made the point about newer systems being able to create enhanced graphics and such. Well, remember, Nintendo said that the cel shading technique used in wind waker (which is quite different from most other cel shaded games) was about just as difficult as creating the realistic graphics. I don't know how, but that's what they say....

The more and more I think about it, if ST III were released using a cel shading format, I wouldn't complain at all, I'd just be very happy it was released. Given most of LOZWW took place in the tropics, I would guess ST III, in the tropics, would look good. LOZWW was a good game, and I think ST III would work in cel shading, but the two games may look somewhat similar in some ways... There are much more worse things that could be done to ruin the game then use cel shading. Yeah, I know, I did a sorta change-up here... Any future ST game should have a Seattle cameo appearance, I think, and have C-Island as either a home base or beginning or ending level, that would be most appropriate. LOL, I just thought of something. Mike should carry around a Conch "shell phone" (as opposed to a cell phone ;D) from which he could talk to Dr. J, Mica, Shaman, and Chief Coralcola, and they can send him messages to help him on his quest. He could also use it as a portable device to keep in touch with Nav-Com so Mike always has full access to Sub-C's navigation and research instruments. Nav-Com can use it to track Mike in case he needs aid or in case he's lost and needs help to find his way out of something. I love thinking up of new ST ideas...

Cool a phone. I never thought of that! It would be neat being able to talk to people for advice and stuff.

One thing most of you agree on is that you want a full 360 degree 3d engine correct? I think the graphics should be more like the original, at least in the action levels. They should be tile based, but with 3 dimensions. So you would see it from a bird's eye view and you'd be able to turn the camera only around the y-axis, (kinda like in harvest moon 64, but with more than just 8 angles) so you'd be able to see around walls. Another thing I don't want is any RPG style at all. It should be linear, like the original. maybe you could get different endings, by taking different paths, but I think you should only be able to move forward. I'm down with the whole yo-yo upgrade thing, but it should be upgraded by completing something, not experience points. And I also think it would be cool to have different moves with the yo-yo. Not with big button pressing competitions (like spiderman, or the DBZ fighting games) but with simple combinations, similar to smash bros. One more thing is I don't think there should be anymore plot twists, like all the argonians really being alive, or Dr. Jones suddenly finding something new after 3 years in the oxford wonder world. I like the idea of mike going to zoda's home world, maybe zoda is trying to build a time machine to go back in time and kill mike before he can foil his plans... Whatever... I don't pretend to be a great storywriter. One more thing I would like to see however is a small adventure at the beginning of the game in the tropics, and one at the end in the tropics...

One thing most of you agree on is that you want a full 360 degree 3d engine correct? About the 3D engine thing, I would rather have them make a 2D game for GBA or DS than attempt to make a 3D game for GNC ( Because startropics is a NINTENDO game. sorry guys with PS2 or XBOX). So anyway If they were to make an ST game with 3D graphics It would feel like you were playing zelda! Thats how I see it.

Either way, critics will probably still compare ST to Zelda almost no matter what is done with the game. It's not fair, but it's the real world... About Zoda building a time machine, I always like the idea of time travel in a story, but it may get to be a little bit too similar to ST II if it plays a major factor in the story, which I don't think is good either. Maybe an alternative would be if you could play as different characters in the story (kinda like in Mega Man X where you can play as X or Zero in certain parts). In one part, you could play as Mica trying to help Mike in some way, or play as her fighting an onslaught of enemies attacking C-Island while Mike is off fighting somewhere else in the tropics, or you could play as her 30 years in the past when she was fighting off Zoda's attack on Argonia, before the game takes you to the present-day with Mike. Possibly, Mica could be your partner during the entire game, and you could switch between the two of them whenever you want, where some parts would be best for Mike and the yo-yo, and some parts would be better for Mica and her shilivre (as Erico calls it ). You could also play as Dr. J at some point, in a puzzle-like portion of the game as he tries to figure out clues to what is going on with Zoda and his evil plans, or something like that. Just a thought...

Nintendo may make a midquel or side story of StarTropics 1 or 2.

Some of those ideas are awesome, coralcola. I had never thought of the idea of multiple playable characters. Nice reference to Erico's fanfic, by the way...very nice

Thanks S2H! ;D You know how I always like to think up of new ST III ideas. Yes, I did think a reference to Erico's story would be most appropriate there, I know how much you love his fanfic.

There's a good idea. I had been considering having both Mike, and possibly the younger brother Matt, as playable characters, but Mica is another good direction to go in, man how is one person supposed to decide all this? Maybe we should have a poll.....

Maybe part off the story line could be that Zoda kidnapped Mike and Matt has to save him. Just a thought!

The kidnapping route is a little played, and Mike isn't like Dr. J, the Chief, or Baboo--he can hold his own! I think it's time for the definitive story that puts Star Tropics in its own brilliant class. It's time we discover Zoda's intentions, motives, and agenda.
For starters, Zoda is the Prime Invader, but who is below him? Second in command should be the powerful Ida. Ida is more talkative and patient, he tortures and interrogates Mike in order to determine the location of the remaining Argonians.

Maybe Zoda could be the follower of somone else. This person is the person who created Zoda(s). He could be the boss of the game. Just another thought!
