Hello! Just a random person who recently started to recoding [StarTropics I] in Unity just for learning experience and it turn out that I find out today that someone else sort of did it too with [StarTropics III]. I am trying to create almost a frame perfect copy of [StarTropics I], at least for the first Dungeon and the Overworld. From what I have tested of [StarTropics III], well... The ennemies patern and frames data are pretty much wrong... but, from what I have read, [StarTropics III] goal is not to 100% copy a game so, I guess it is ok then. (Well, mine is not actualy 100% accurate as well so, lol) Overall, I am just passing by to say hello to all of you big StarTropics fans and to show a personnal project about StarTropics that I am working on n_n. Here is a video that compare [StarTropics I] in an Emulator VS my version in Unity www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxdMZNYCbG8If anyone of you want to test it (Only the first Dungeon is in this test version): *Yes there is customs controls, but only if you use the link below, the link in the description of the youtube video is an older version. www.dropbox.com/s/hzwr47b8x9p6tnv/StarTropics%20Unity%20First%20Dungeon%20V1.2.7z?dl=0I am planning to maybe create a stage editor for it but more I think about it and more I think I am not going to since I pretty much learned what I wanted to learn for this project. I might also release the full sources codes of the project if I feel like it and if someone is interested about it. So, on this, see ya! ♥

Hey! Welcome!
I like what I saw just now! Is it me, or is does it seem like the Unity version runs a bit smoother? (Less choppy).
You have some great plans, I see! I hope to see them all completed someday!

I really like what you've done so far. It's a very faithful recreation of the first dungeon and it's nearly frame perfect to the original. Do you have plans to do more? What about upgrading the graphics to a more modern-looking 2D game?

This this this this this!!! I support this, I'm willing to recreate all graphics (or at least the spritesheets) from the 1st dungeon in something leaning towards vector art, so it looks hand drawn and whatnot. Something like this:

Hey!,
To be honest I was not sure at all if I was going to post or not, but I am happy that you 2 find my re-creation to be good n_n.
So... my plans? umm..
My original plan was to re-create the dungeon gameplay in [StarTropics I] because I want to create a similar game that is more "modern" that have a lot more stuff in it overall and probably will be focused on dungeon stuff only (or with overworld?, still not sure).
So, I don't know if I will do more for this game, I might finish the first overworld section because it is almost done allready, just to have the full first section of the game but other then that, it will depend how motivated I am going to be to finish re-coding this game.
But, I think I will just start to structure my own game for the moment. For this [StarTropics I] project, I just rushed in without structuring much so I got some problems for "X" or "Y" thing and I don't want this to happen for my own game where I plan to have a stage editor for it.
Thanks for the offer shinigamihedgehog for the possible vector style sprites, but like I just said, don't think I will work much on the project anymore. If you still want to do all the graphics for the first dungeon, I can replace the current sprite for the one you are going to create but I am not sure if it is going to be worth it for you because I don't plan at the moment to finish the game.
gellin, I see you don't use input buffer for your game, wich is something important(Personal opinion) for a StarTropics game, if you want I can give you the code I use to achieve this, should be easy to implement for your game [StartTropics III] since I code in C#. Or if you have any question about how I coded "X" or "Y", feel free to ask!
Sorry for the wall of text lol

Nicely done foulco! That's a very impressive demo that you've got going on there.
I made ST3 as a challenge to myself to learn C#. That said, there are a lot of decisions that were made during development that I would absolutely do over. For instance, I used GLUT for the main game loop and input and what not. These days I would just code all of that myself. And you're right about mine not being frame perfect. When I started working on ST2 monsters, that is when I discovered I was calculating the elapsed time incorrectly.
I hope you do continue on with this. It's very well done. I bundle all of the images and audio with my ST3 so the assets are all available to anyone who needs them.

I wish ST3 is remade on the Unity Engine. So far from looking at the previews, they were colorful and nice, but I wish the textures were in high resolution.
