Do you know why I created this topic? I think it's about time StarTropics 3 Builder really need to catch up with content. A similar custom game builder to this is Mario Builder. The shocking part when I discovered out about Mario Builder (which is probably finished), there are several versions of it all for the PC and the latest version is 11.4. It combines thousands of gameplay elements/items/enemies of Super Mario 2, Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World. Even custom sound, graphics and possibly enemies can be implemented into the Mario builder. Imagine the future unlimited possibilities that maybe StarTropics 3 has to offer. It's not a competition? It's something he did for fun and to share with people who also love StarTropics. I highly doubt it's some serious, high priority project.
Why compare it to something else? Enjoy it and have some fun.

CKY2K is correct. I'm just one guy who made both the game/editor for fun, which I was able to do back when I had this mythical thing I used to know called "free time". This existed back before I had a wife/kid/house/job.
Version numbers are an arbitrary thing by the developers, and I never update mine because I don't really care. This could be version 26.8 or 728.1 if I wanted it to be.
StarTropics III actually allows you to drop in custom textures, music, and sound effects. I don't expose that in the editor but you can simply replace the ones in you install folder with an equivalent file. As long as it's in the proper format, it'll read it in.

It's actually really hard to believe that it has been ten years since you originally released the editor. It has come a long way since then, and I can't thank you enough for creating it! So what if there are Super Mario editors out there that can do X or import Y, the fact that any editor exists at all for StarTropics is a really incredible thing, and it is completely understandable that there are many things in your life which take priority over it. I'm just sorry that I wasn't a better level designer, so that we could have really gotten a full game off the ground like you wanted to! Although overall, thank you so much for all of your contributions to the StarTropics community gellin! I don't know how many hours I have spent creating dungeons and putting new life into a series which Nintendo has unfortunately forgotten.

With all due respect to gellin, IS there an update in the future, or at the very least, is ST3 still alive? I still play around with the editor and am SLOWLY (I too have other necessary things occupying a great deal of my time) hashing together a ST story. I would love to see this carry on! It's been over a year since I discovered you guys, but ST3 still has a coveted spot on my desktop and hotbar.
On a side note, We have ST3, zeldaclassic, and Mario Builder. Are there any quality editors for Castlevania Classic?

Glad to hear ST3 still has a spot on your desktop I would say it's still alive, even if I haven't updated it in a long time. Aside from bosses, I'm pretty content with what features the editor has currently though so there isn't a ton of work to do. You can pretty much make an entire game with it as is almost. Now if someone had some feature requests and wanted to give me a large sum of money, I can take some time off of work and do some stuff for you

Lol. I understand that. The only request I really have, and it may just be user issues causing this, but I can't get the help wizard to run in STIII Editor. Is there the possibility of getting a stand alone file of it posted? I really want to get better at using STIII.

Question gellin : Are you still planning on making your own true "ST3" story/linear game? Or, are you calling your ST3 editor/game a "tool for people to make their own ST3's," or...? I ask in part because I'm curious myself and (at least on Twitch, where I hang a lot these days) some people still think there's a huge ton of content to be released (aka, an actual full ST3 game to eventually be played: i.e. the ST speedrunners are discussing racing ST3 when it's complete). I've not been sure of the status myself, and I've not wanted to give out inaccurate information, so I've pretty much been giving a bunch of "IDK's." Either way, your ST3 has been worked on now for almost 10 years, so I can understand either of your choices. Especially with a real job, family, etc., I know your time has plummeted and your ability to work on it hardcore is gone. I guess it's a consequence of getting older... or something under the Southern Cross...

That's an excellent question, and to be honest, I don't really know the answer. As of right now, I would say that it could be rebranded as a StarTropics Maker utility, not a full game. That said, I would love to release a full game using it, but I wouldn't expect anything in at least a few years. Unless I can form a team here of an artist to make me some boss sprites, a writer to write the dialogue (I have the general basis for the storyline), and MJ comes back with dungeon support, I wouldn't expect a full game anytime soon. I wouldn't rule it out completely though. Under the Southern Cross, anything is possible!

You can always count on me for dungeons! If a team was put together and we had a clear plan on what we wanted to do, I would definitely be game, whether in the near or distant future.

I wouldn't rule it out completely though. Under the Southern Cross, anything is possible! I feel like there's enough of us out there to help with things as long as we're given the ability to and the access to what we need (in the program and elsewhere) to contribute. There are those of us here who have dungeon ideas and have made slews of dungeons before. Those of us can write script, others can make graphics/sprites, others can compose music if that's their forte, etc. This is, if you're comfortable/willing enough to let go of some of these responsibilities directly and instead take on more of a managerial & final approval role with parts of the game. You'd have just to specify what you need, identify a certain number of roles to be filled, maybe take some "applications" from people for these roles, and decide who does what. You could also specify target dates for certain pieces to be done (possibly in conjunction with the people you nominated for the role). It sounds like you're starting a company, but it'll ultimately save you so much time at the end, the hardcore ST community's input will be greater, and because certain game design components will play into some people's skills more than others, the overall quality of the final game should be even better. Just my 747 cents...

I have already done the original STI dungeons (most of them that are fitting) and one STII dungeon: startropics.proboards.com/thread/1341/chapters-2-dungeons-remade-releasedI have yet to tell Gellin to mention that in the front ST3 user dungeons page.
