As I leave my imagination run wild at what could be the most utopical E3 reveal for me... I had a thought.
We don't know if ST3 will ever be made. But let's say one of the aspiring game designers here get a chance to work on it someday, wouldn't it be useful to know what mechanics, music, tropes, weapons, etc ST fans would like to see? Then it hit me that, for the sake of curiosity, I've never asked what things people would like to see in a StarTropics sequel. So I'm going to ask now:
1.- What things would you like to see return from previous Startropics entries?
2.- What NEW things would you like to see introduced?
Bonus: Do you think a character like Mike Jones can still be appealling in today's audiences? And if you don't, what would you do about it in order to drag more attention to the ST protagonist?

I think the Yo-Yo mechanics could introduce, with today's technology, some interesting combo-based combat techniques (ala God of War). Also, I think that his athleticism (he IS a baseball player, after all) could come into play as well with some parkour-type areas.
I'm not sure that the room-to-room style of dungeon would be appropriate for today's generation of gaming, but the open-world exploration definitely could be a factor in a new StarTropics game...especially if the game takes place on, say, a certain distant planet that Mike once helped save...? The game could take a linear-esque approach but also include a wide open world to explore that can be opened more and more as you gain certain techniques and/or items (ala Metroid).
Not sure if Mike Jones himself would be a relatable character, now that I'm thinking about this (especially since he probably isn't still playing baseball 20+ years later)...perhaps his own son/daughter?
These are only a few thoughts...perhaps I'll post more as I think of them!

Forget the Hollywood mess. If I was host, I'd have Wheel tape on C-Island. :)

Mostly ditto what Scotty said. I wouldn't go the son/daughter route with Mike just yet as I think there's a lot more character that can be fleshed out with him... Maybe wait until ST 6 or 7 or so for when we can talk about his marriage to Mica and babies... The motion controls of modern games I felt would have been the perfect... uh... gimmick to do a ST3-type game with the yo-yo's return. I'd actually go so far as to say also bring the Psychic Shockwave back too. Baseball bats, horsehides (aka... BASEBALLS), etc. are the perfect kind of weapons to exploit these controls with... they're all in the original game, and can fit with Mike being set as a general all-American kind of kid. He can even listen to some old-fashioned rock n' roll (like the Beach Boys and Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow)... actually anything except Miley Cyrus would be okay... As for the game's tone, the best comparison I can make is to imagine "a realistic-graphic version of Windwaker." The traveling would be via Sub-c instead of the dragon boat... thingy, and there would be transports on various islands that would warp you to Seattle and Argonia (which, yes, I believe should be playable areas too!). Either that, or Sub-C should become Space-C when appropriate and just handle your all-around inter-tropical transportation needs!© Coralcola 2014 I'd also want there to be an element of Cryptology in the game in some form, as it's a driving force in the series, but I'm not sure how to do it yet and not freak kids and some gamers out with the "OMGdezmaths are hard" associated with it. (Which is possibly why I should never make a game on my own, it'd probably feel too much like math class). I'll stop there before this turns into a thesis.
