Part straw-grasping, part prophecy fulfillment

I'm copy-pasting this from my thread at Smashboards.
Maybe, MAYBE, Startropics is being revived in the shadows.
What you read next might be old news, or might be tibbids of things I've researched.

Anyway... here goes.

This is the ultimate form of straw-graspery, but I couldn't sleep last night... So in an attempt to dig out hints of the whereabouts of StarTropics in today's Nintendo agenda, I stumbled upon a dim ray of hope for this series...

Anyway, I present to you...
The clues.





Clue #1


-Kensuke Tanabe is apparently tasked with recreating games made by Genyo Takeda.
-Genyo Takeda was Nintendo's very first Video Game Designer. (He's now focused on hardware only)

EVR RACING (a horse racer was just developed by Game Freaks)
SPACE FIREBIRD
SHERIFF
PUNCH OUT!! (Successfully revived)
STARTROPICS
PILOTWINGS 64 (Revived, though not quite as successful)





-You can see here that Punch Out! and Pilotwings were brought back by the same man...
Kensuke Tanabe, who I cite again...

You were responsible for the mission of resurrecting games made by Genyo Takeda, Nintendo's first game designer...

That's TWO out of FIVE plausible games made by Genyo Takeda to be brought back by Kensuke Tanabe.
-Punch Out (2009)
-Pilotwings Resort (2011)


Which means... that the next game produced by Kensuke Watanabe MIGHT be around the corner if there's a 2-year gap between each of his projects.

The question is... will it be:
-Sheriff?
-Space Firebird?
-StarTropics?

Maybe Nintendo has something planned for StarTropics. And if Little Mac and Punch Out have seen the light of day once again, it's possible that Iwata might be more aware of StarTropics, especialluy if HE is now in charge of Nintendo of America.

And that concludes my rambling and series of observations from a 2-hour-long worth of free time.

Whoa! That's some incredible researching you did there.

Those really are some great finds. When were Punch-Out and Pilotwings Resort announced? Unfortunately it's looking a bit late for a new game in this line to be released this year, but the fact that someone out there actually has the job of reviving Genyo Takeda's games is amazing. I had no idea that such a thing was taking place, and figured that Punch-Out and Pilotwings coming back were just coincidences. Do we have any indication if Kensuke Tanabe is still working on this project? If so then we may have reason to get very excited...

Well, Punch Out!! was announced approximately on 7/11/2008
And Pilotwings Resort was announced on E3 2010.


It's worth noting that if Punch Out Wii did well enough to become a "Nintendo Selects" title, and Pilotwings Resort quickly became the 6th best selling title on 3DS... Then we can say these ressurrections have been successful. Perhaps Mr.Tanabe will continue to ressurrect Genyo Takeda's games, as I don't think Iwata was just talking about these two titles when he gave him the task.

I think it's pretty reassurring, and with the Wii U not having a lot of 1st party variety at the moment, they could sure use tome more of this man's magic.

I can say this... I don't think we've ever been THIS close to a StarTropics revival like in forever. But there's of course always room for doubt. StarTropics is the obscurest part of obscurity to Japan. Hopefully, Iwata COULD now be more aware of it and can perhaps use this opportunity to use StarTropics to the Wii U's advantage.

I always stay optimistic, but I'm not immediately ready to start doing a victory lap around my room.

Genyo also did Popeye and Dr. Mario 64. IMHO, that means there are actually five possibilities (some very well known) here for consideration:

-Popeye
-Dr. Mario
-Sheriff
-Space Firebird
-StarTropics

Popeye may have licensing issues in this era that would be problematic for a new game, and while a new Dr. Mario may be a reasonable assumption, Tanabe's wording makes me think this is not what he was talking about.

However, I hear a lot from gamers of all ages about Sheriff and Space Firebird. Any of these five I think are reasonable choices for a revival, but our guesses are basically a dice roll as to what they have cooking right now.
