This will be the image I will spam this week. fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/173/d/f/onegai_sakurai_san__by_diegichigo-d6a8vm8.jpgI intended for it to be a quickie, but it took me the whole blasted day to make! Next time I'll make pictures that are a lot easier/quicker to make. ------ In other news... Maybe THIS is why StarTropics must be hard to represent in games like Smash Bros. ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarTropicsLook at that poor Wiki entry... it's roughly one paragraph long! If I could just... write fluent Japanese... I know Sakurai MIGHT not check Wikipedia regularly, but I bet this is more info on StarTropics than Nintendo of Japan has in their database.

Very nice! Putting the request in Japanese is a cool touch. All of those items laying out on the floor just show how awesome Mike in Smash Bros. could be, there are tons of attack possibilities for him!
**Edit: All that article says is when and where StarTropics was released, that it's an action-adventure game, and that it had a sequel that was released in 1994. It doesn't actually say anything about the game itself, which is quite a shame.
Maybe we need to find someone who can rework the entire page? I guess it's not a surprise that hardly anyone in Japan cares about StarTropics if even Wikipedia has barely any info on it.

Yes...all of us that are on Twitter should definitely spam that image this week! (though not TOO much spamming...we don't want to aggrivate them!) I'm starting my campaign tonight! [EDIT] Sakurai's Twitter handle is @sora_Sakurai and be sure to include the hashtag #YouCanDoItSakurai in your post as well! I have bit.ly'd the image link to take up fewer characters in each tweet so here's that: bit.ly/12Y1SNt[/EDIT]

Thanks! That's pretty sweet! Could I ask you to do that again, I just updated the pic a few hours ago, correcting subtle errors. ñ.ñ if it's not too much trouble. Great idea btw. Question: Does PicTweet work for this? Because I know Sakurai has it too. And be sure to cheer for him WHILE we ask him for StarTropics representation. Otherwise we won't look too well if we use the YouCanDoItSakurai hashtag. XD th06.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2013/174/6/6/onegai_sakurai_san__by_diegichigo-d6a8vm8.jpg (UPDATED) EDIT: Working hours in Japan start soon (9:00 AM) my Keyboard is ready... So is my image url.

I woke up this morning to many rage-tweets (which I promptly ignored) saying the YouCanDoItSakurai hashtag is not for "character begging" as they put it, aling with some less than mature rage-trolling. I will say, however...that they are right...it's more of a support hashtag. Sakurai works with basically one hand (he sufers from severe tendonitis) but perseveres becausr he l8ves the game and community so much. Thus, I would suggest we find a new venue to do our "character begging" (can't say that and not chuckle a little).

Eh.. yeah.. Well I should've seen this earlier. Oh well. I won't do it again. XD
EDIT:
Another place where I could cautiously spam with images, but not sure how closely they're tied with Nintendo.
ONM (Official Nintendo Magazine). It's a UK Nintendo site, it's got "official" in it so it has to count for something...
I was going to try Club Nintendo as well, but they don't seem to have an option for fan feedback anywhere.
I still think Miiverse is the most direct link to Sakurai... After Twitter but I'm pretty sure Twitter has driven him NUTS by now.
Going to try some more stuff... LinkedIN for example...
EDIT#2 Woaah guys! You won't believe this! I was searching in LInkedIN... there was no Sakurai, naturally... But guess who I found!
None other than Genyo Takeda, the man, the creator himself!
I'm excited and nervous! Should I write him in english? Should I attempt a very barebones Japanese?
Should I complete my profile first so that I don't intimidate him? If my post bothers him... will it have some sort of repercution on my profile? Or will he simply block me?
Don't know what to do, but I could start filling up my profile for the time being. My mind isn't ready yet!!! D:
----------------------
EDIT#3
Turns out.... just me attempting to write him a message costs me $49,50. To make it clearer... Me attempting to contact him for a full month will cost me $50, while trying to contact him for a year will cost me $40 per month.
Ouch... Em... Will have to think this through. I need to come up with a plan.
-----------------------------
EDIT #4
Ok, seems there is a cheaper alternative to contacting Mr.Takeda. If you add him to your contacts, in LInkedIN, you can give him a message. Just like you would add a message to a Skype friend request.
Now I'm excited all over again. But this feels like a one-shot opportunity.
I beg of you guys, and I trust that anyone contacts him, please remember to be polite and respectful above all else!
It's about time we showed him our appreciation for his work!

Hope you guys have been doing your homework. XD Nah, jk. I've been tweeting to Sora_Sakurai, but my trump card will be more likely that LInkedIN accound of Genyo Takeda. I wonder if he still remembers the game, because he sure hasn't forgotten Punch Out. And I can't for the life of me find an interview with that man. (At least one in non-translated English). -- Fellas, just successfully tweeted and appeared in Sora_Sakurai's twitter profile. At least in the "All" section. But it's a first time for some reason. Anyway, a much BETTER way to upload pics to Twitter, is via Tweetpic. You just upload a file, and tweet away. The photo will be linked without taking any space! Ain't that useful? I see a lot of request characters... but hopefully writing in Japanese will give me a slight edge over most people. (I know that one person's eyes usually fix on his/her native language first, and then the rest). Anyway... Whenever you guys can, keep bombarding him. I will write a few hours later again. Gotta recover my Japanese skills! EDIT: Looks like we were a little too late... Apparently Sakurai is no longer taking character requests. just focusing on implementing the ones he has. I guess this is either "let's push as hard as we can" scenario, or "let's let destiny decide". I'll keep posting pics at least so Mike becomes an assist trophy, or a regular trophy.

They're done taking character requests already? That didn't take very long at all. I suppose that they probably had 90% of them already planned out, and just wanted some fan suggestions for the final few.
Continuing to try couldn't hurt though, and it might even help get some other kind of StarTropics appearance in the game. I would honestly be happy with anything at this point, I just want Nintendo to acknowledge that StarTropics exists! Then maybe next time we can push for a full character again.
And I believe that Official Nintendo Magazine is actually UK's version of Nintendo Power. I guess that they didn't stop production when Nintendo Power did.
But anyway, keep up the good work. ;D

Just a quickie, since I'm not feeling alright right now:
Sakurai HAS considered DLC. And likes the idea of DLC if done properly.
So there might still be a chance to push him for DLC. HOwever, I too would be happy with any SIGNIFICANT type of representation of StarTropics.

Oh man it would be so awesome if Mike showed up in Smash Bros! Then, via the Kid Icarus method, gain popularity again and we get a new game.

Since Little Mac just got revealed as a playable character for Super Smash Bros. 4, the chances for Mike Jones getting into Smash Bros. is dramatically increased.

Actually if anything, Nintendo usually throws in characters that they are interested in rebooting. Just look at Pit in Brawl, he hadn't had a game in years, but then Uprising came out not too long after that. So I definitely wouldn't say that the character roster is always composed of just the most popular characters. If that were the case, how did ROB, Mr. Game & Watch, or the Ice Climbers ever get in there?
