A thought:
Since there are a number of regulars who stream ST 1 & 2 on Twitch, is there a way that we can include on the forum some kind of bot that makes it so whenever they stream, a notice (on the front banner or elsewhere) goes up that people can easily find? It could also be a way people can catch up on a stream they might have missed. A way to actually watch the stream live here on the forum would also be kind of cool, but I don't think that would be particularly easy or smiled upon.
It may be as simple as finding some kind of forum-compatible widget that just identifies anybody on Twitch, in general, who is streaming ST at any time, and then have a solid link to the regulars (zodastone, DarkTerrex, exods, etc.).

Please excuse the self-promotion, but...
The SGDQ 2015 schedule is out! StarTropics will kick off the NES block on Tuesday July 28 at 7:35am EDT. Practice, practice, practice...

I was talking to ZodaStone and Darkterrex the other night and we had a thought: ST's 25th anniversary is coming up VERY soon (December), and we should do something special. I feel like, if possible, all of us with the ability to stream on Twitch should get together and do a massive ST race or general playthrough to celebrate. I will start streaming within the next month, and I know you already do Scotty. Does anyone else on the forum here? ZodaStone, DarkTerrex, Exods, Philosoraptor, DriftingSkies, Lostleader8, MrGoBananas, DarkwingDuck, Fattninja, and TheTantalus are Twitch people who I know have streamed ST at some point in the past, so they could be potential participants, along with possibly others. Of course, in an ideal world, a massive update/release for ST3 would be amazing to accompany this, but I don't know how feasible that is... Thoughts?

I like this idea. Perhaps we can come up with a joint ST.com Twitch channel that we can all broadcast from at different parts of the day/month whenever we get the chance. Wouldn't take much effort...just need to have some permissions from gellin to use the ST.com name on the channel/account and perhaps a YouTube channel to upload these videos to when they are done? This idea literally just popped into my head, so I haven't ironed out any details about it yet.
Thoughts?
[EDIT] Maybe even just a channel that can host our own separate channels while we stream. The bigwigs here at the boards can all have moderator priveleges to host and unhost the channels necessary whenever someone goes live. Thoughts on this as well, please. [/EDIT]

I agree that a huge race needs to happen. Regarding potential participants, Nudua was doing StarTropics runs about a year ago, hopefully he'd be interested in joining in as well.
It'd be nice if we had a way to get more people playing game besides just the 10-15 of us that run the game. One possibility would be to have multiple races going on at the same time (say if we had a blind race, a race for first-time speedrunners of the game, and a race for speedrunners). My experience is that a lot of people have a mental list of games they'd like to blind-race but don't have anyone to do it with. Some organization/promotion on our part would hopefully wrangle a few people who have StarTropics on their list.
I also really like the idea of promoting this on ST.com; even after a year of streaming I still have new people come into my channel who are big fans of the game but don't have any connections with the ST-speedrunning community (or don't know it even exists, as is usually the case). Doing a few races on SRL would probably alert more people that ST-speedrunning is a thing, I'll see if I can get a few runners together to make that happen.
A ST.com Twitch account for hosting ST-players could work, but Twitch already lets you "follow StarTropics" which more or less serves the same purpose. A StarTropics YouTube channel would be awesome, I'd be all for it.

So in regards to this, Zodastone, I have created a Twitch channel for this site. It is StarTropicsDotCom. There is also a YouTube channel poised and ready to have some videos exported/uploaded to it. I can get you streaming rights to the Twitch channel, if you want. I don't know if Twitch allows you to dual-stream...but if it does, you're more than welcome to have streaming rights. Just let me know in a PM what you need for it (as I am still a bit new to channels allowing streaming by other users). The other option could be to play host to the other streamers. Those of us that have the login info for the page can easily figure out when the ST streamers go live and then host the stream through the channel. I'm still playing with ideas, so I'm open to lots of suggestions/critiques.

Oh by the way, Darkwing Duck's twitch account is darkwing_duck_sda
In regards to dual streaming it depends on which program you use. Xsplit allows it, OBS does not.

I streamed for the first time last night: www.twitch.tv/Coralcola . The theme for my first stream (hey, I rhymed!) was "my first games ever." I got my NES Christmas of 89 (so no ST yet), with about 7 games. I played my first games with the exception of Mario and Zelda (which everyone on Twitch plays) and the kiddie games I used to have (i.e. Sesame Street & Fisher Price). The stream has been saved and can be found here: www.twitch.tv/coralcola/v/23595153It took an hour for tech issues to be resolved, so I had to restart the stream 4 times (which are not included on that video), but with some of my real-life friends on there, we got it worked out. It runs about 2 hours, and all the games I played are played "cold," so there was no prior practice. See what 26 years of gaming has done for my raw skill of these games...

Looking at streaming tonight (November 4), possibly starting around 9. The theme will be more of my "first games ever." Tonight will be sorta the 2nd wave of games I first got as a kid (1990-1991), which happens to include... ahem... Join if you dare! www.twitch.tv/Coralcola

StarTropics turns 25 this month! To celebrate, I'm organizing a race to be held on Sunday December 20th, at 6pm PST. All players of all skill levels are welcome to join in! Race will be conducted through SRL (though if SRL's not your thing, feel free to play along anyway!).

Maybe we can talk to the Best of Nes people or the speedgaming league guys to help kick off a StarTropics twitch channel or host the big dog speedrunners or something.

Firestorm...firstly let me say it's good to see you here on the Island! Regarding your idea, there is a Startropics twitch channel that I created for hosting purposes a few months back. The channel name is StarTropicsDotCom. With enough of a heads up, I can set the channel to host anyone else's channel. Once you've ben here a while and proven yourself worthy, I can even get you the stream key to be able to stream directly to the channel if you want! There's also a StarTropicsDotCom YouTube Channel that can be uploaded/exported to.

I logged onto the ST Twitch channel and was hosting some of the runners... (since I had tech issues and couldn't race myself). Hopefully we can get some more activity on there (and on the forum here) in the coming weeks with more people playing it on Twitch recently.
