Defeat the Alien Walker (boss of Chapter 7-2 in ST1) without pushing it off of the edge. 5/10 If you attack it enough it will eventually die, just make sure you have a spare 15 minutes to spend and some caffeine to stop you from falling asleep while you try to do it! I actually did beat the Alien Walker on the Wii version. I Supernova'd him until I got damaged, and I pulled the super laser gun, and toasted him. Of course he took a lot of damage from the Supernova first.

now his username makes sense to me Yeah, the name fits. Defeat the Alien Walker (boss of Chapter 7-2 in ST1) without pushing it off of the edge. 5/10 On a similar note, knock the walker off without it moving forward. I did it once, and I have no idea how to repeat it. Annoying, since it would save about 5 seconds in a speedrun, but I can never keep it from bounding forward while going back to hit the switch.

Haha thanks! ;D So far I'm 4 for 4 then! I actually recorded myself playing through the first StarTropics (the link to the entire playthrough is in my signature) and it happened to be a no death run. I have also beat ZR without dying, and many years ago I actually tried to do a no damage playthrough of it as well (I made it to the second dungeon of Chapter 8 before taking a break and then never going back, the level was just too long and I got tired of getting hit right near the end ). When you say you got to chapter 8 without getting hit, you mean trying 1 chapter at a time right? Like, you didn't actually go through 8 chapters in a row without getting hit did you? If you did that's just crazy...but I have a feeling you meant it the other way. How did you do your no death runs? When I say beat the game without dieing, I'm implying you beat the whole thing in one go, and if you die on chapter 9 you start over at chapter 1. You can't just re-do chapter 9. I just wanted to clarify because I'm not sure how you did them.

For the no-hit run I used the beginning of each dungeon as a checkpoint, although for the no-death runs it means that I've beat the entire game without dying at all. I've beat each of the games so many times and I have the level layouts memorized so well (especially from the first game) that it's a rare occurrence for me to die these days.

Haha I'm always speeding through like a maniac since I've beaten them both many times too, which results in lots of deaths. Especially in ST2 when you get overconfident with your jumps. Boom you clip the edge of the water and die! Thanks for clarifying though; that's really great getting through that many dungeons without getting hit. It sounds like a really fun challenge, next time I play I am going to start a file and see how far I make it. I assume chapter 8 isn't too difficult with persistence, but chapter 9? Now we're talking crazy, but it's not impossible either.. I'm now 4 out of 5 with the challenges; I have destroyed Ostro many times with out knocking him off. It never takes 15 minutes, I just blast the heck out of him with the super ray gun and he dies in a minute or less. I think it's some kind of glitch. A few nights ago I took down ST2 without dieing for the first time; it's quite simple but knowing you can't make a single mistake on any of the jumps makes me really nervous jumping making it hard in that sense. Especially the raft jumps where you can walk off and die. Now for ST1 and I'll be 5/5 and ready for more! ;D

New challenge, I don't know why I didn't post this earlier:
Don't attack yum-yum on chapter 1 until you kill the pig he's about to eat. I'm sure this is possible, but I just can't nail it yet. The problem is you're so busy dodging his bubbles you can't really land any hits with your dumb short-range axe. It's definitely a high paced endurance battle!
Difficulty.. 8/10

Ah yes, that's definitely a good one. I can't remember if I've done it once before or if I've just tried so many times that my mind has been tricked into thinking that I did it. Anyways it sounds like something for me to go and try again at some point.

Ahh...you old Startropics fool! Btw, I've added a new rule for the yum-yum challenge: You're not allowed to attack him at all until he fires off the initial 3 bubbles after you kill the pig. This is to keep the fight pure-skill disallowing cheap shots. With that said, I completed the challenge tonight! It seemed impossible at first but when you get good at timing the bubble pattern you can fire off anywhere from 1-3 shots without getting hit easily. I finished with 1 heart, and I didn't use the medicine you can find at the beginning of the level. By the way I found a video of this being done, and it's pretty dang well played. He was much more aggressive and he killed the thing 3 times as fast as I did: www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8QIZGKRbBY

d**n! I can't believe how well this went...if you're still planning on "beating" me in regards to how many hearts are left over, you have a heck of a challenge now! Bosses + Zoda Z, No Medicine + no Vitamin X: Finished with...17 hearts remaining! I had a flawless run with all 20 hearts left after beating the dragon, and I got hit by two of Zoda's bullets. I nabbed the Vitamin X just for the heck of it. I wish I still had my DVD recorder...this run was so beautiful! The race to a Flawless 20 heart victory is on!

Please excuse me for bumping an old topic, but I had long done this..sort of: www.youtube.com/watch?v=60saWAEEbvIwww.youtube.com/watch?v=IB_jGfhcyScIt's segmented for the sake of my sanity because I limit myself to the Katana, though I can tell you the Ultra Psychic Shock Wave is so powerful for its range so it would have provided TONS of stress relief.
Addendum: OH! Somebody posted about turbo Yum-Yum. In that case, I did that no damage long ago:
