Thought I'd try to stir up some action around here...so let's have a series of Startropics challenges!
First up is a challenge for the boss rush on Startropics 2. Beat all the bosses, and finally Zoda Z without using any health medicines. You may use the vitamin right before Zoda. If you want a BIG dose of extra credit, beat all the bosses AND Zoda without medicines AND without the vitamin!

It's been quite a while since I played StarTropics 2, to get myself back in shape I started a new file, played through the entire game, and ended off with my attempt at this challenge!
Things went very well, and I managed to pull off a no medicine bottle AND no vitamin X run on my FIRST try!
(I love how the video turned out to be 7:47)
I was shocked, you can tell by the way that I spaz out at the end.
This was a ton of fun to do! This challenge was a great way to bring some new fun into a game that I've beat a ton of times! Got any other challenges in mind? Maybe I'll try to think of some and others can come up with some as well! ;D

Great job Mike!
You made it look easy, I don't know why I was never able to do it. Like you, I've beaten it countless times cause it's fun to pop in every once and a while and play through. You've definitely motivated me to give it a shot again though. I've been meaning to play but I've been busy. First try too huh? dang!
I'm glad you were able to have so much fun completing this task. I figured doing it without any healing whatsoever would be extremely difficult, but apparently not if you nailed it on your first go!
Sure, feel free to post any challenges that are unique, fun and challenging. Anybody is welcome to post.
The only other challenges I have tried so far are no-death runs. Try to beat the whole game, start to finish without dieing at all. A death means starting from chapter 1. I ALMOST completed the first startropics this way, but I ended up dieing on the dang Ostro fight (or whatever that legs boss is called where you knock him off)
I haven't tried ZR yet, but I imagine it would be easier because of how tricky chapter 7 can be on ST1.

Yeah, that's the part that worries me the most. From there everything is easy except for 7-2 which is simple for the most part, but if you screw up too much on the boss and get nervous it's easy to die. Zoda can be tricky too.
That's a great run you did by the way, I saw your speed run on SDA a while back. My best is 1:29, just did a run for fun one night. I'm sure I could take it below 1:15 but I doubt I could take you down.

Zoda-Z as well as the rest of his reject followers have been taken down with no medicine and no vitamin X by me tonight! I'm the second person on C-Island to do it! (that I know of! )
I was doing great up to the dragon, I had only gotten hit by one of mashing miner's rocks once which left me with 18 and a half hearts, but the d**n thing did his breath attack WAY more than usual and of course I missed dodging it, bringing my all the way down to 11 hearts. I tore up Zoda's larva quickly before it fired off too many bullets, and took Zoda's first part out getting hit once I believe. I decided to go with the spiky 3 way shot on the final form because I wanted to keep my distance, I was getting nervous!
Finished with 6 hearts on the clock, beating Mike(Andrew?) by a whole 2 and a half hearts!

Thanks Andrew! It was cool when I finally got it, I remember trying so hard back then just do beat it with no medicines, this was something I gave up on yet it only took me about 10 tries last night.
You wanna "beat" me huh? Ok sure! Let's see who can do it without losing the ultra shockwave, meaning you have to do it all with 10+ hearts! That will be a tough one but I'll try it for fun sometime.
I'm going for completion of ZR without dieing once. I died in the pyramid because I tried to make a jump to clear two tiles, I guess I went brain dead temporarily to do something so dumb, haha. I don't foresee any problems in completing the challenge, though knowing only one misplaced jump will kill you I'll be a little nervous the whole way through.
I can't get past the miner without taking some medicine no matter how hard I try.
I know what you mean, his attack is super cheap and the fact that the boulders stop Mike's shots make it hard to deal damage to him.
Yeah, he is extremely difficult to kill with any consistency. With practice and a little luck though you should not get hit more than once or twice at most. I assume you're getting hit well before him though to be using medicines, you need more practice on the earlier bosses. You should be able to get up to the miner without getting hit on a fairly consistent basis.
So far I'm 4 for 4 then! I actually recorded myself playing through the first StarTropics (the link to the entire playthrough is in my signature) and it happened to be a no death run. I have also beat ZR without dying, and many years ago I actually tried to do a no damage playthrough of it as well (I made it to the second dungeon of Chapter 8 before taking a break and then never going back, the level was just too long and I got tired of getting hit right near the end ).
Also, I would like to add a new challenge to the list! This is something that I have done a couple of times and it's really more time consuming than it is difficult once you get into the rhythm:
Defeat the Alien Walker (boss of Chapter 7-2 in ST1) without pushing it off of the edge. 5/10
If you attack it enough it will eventually die, just make sure you have a spare 15 minutes to spend and some caffeine to stop you from falling asleep while you try to do it!
