Now that is a cool idea, definitely something I never would have thought of myself . It's really great to see that you're still working on this!

Of course, this is the project that I'm going to push through. I've worked on a lot of StarTropics projects before but nothing came close to this.
Everything is perfect and rolling.
I think I'm going to make the second level at least, and then release a full demo. I'm going to show it on GMC and I hope it picks up well, because it's pretty hard to stun those people and keep the topic on fire.
I'm making sure to make it a perfect demo, so far I only released small demos on these boards for you guys.

Well done indeed! So far anyways. You've definately got the controls implemented nicely, and altogether it definately had the feeling of an ST game. You've replicated much of the original gameplay very well, and I was pleasantly surprised by the rockets and jetpack. Although I wish I had known about the jetpack before I spent fifteen minutes trying to get the supernova . Now more importantly, my criticisms (which are few) The load time in the beginning, but you know this already. Sub-C has a sprite disproportional to how it's bounded. If you are serious about having mike go directly into it without an overworld screen, I would strongly suggest making it's bounding box twice as big. I just thought it looked a bit odd like it is. Maybe change the cleats so they only attack enemies visible on the screen. Otherwise they could be abused, such as when I stood on one side of the building and killed an alien on the otherside with them. And finally on a side note, I'm not sure what your planning on doing with your story, but here is something that just came to me while playing your demo: Atlantis. I feel like it could be easily worked into the existing ST mythos to be Argonian in origin, or possibly another unknown alien race. Plus Mike would already have transportation there ;D. Just a thought.

Thanks Matt. I believe the demos I've posted here are way out of date from what I'm working on. Only 2 of the same buildings stand, one of them being the first dungeon and the cave remains as well.
The loading time is cut down to just like a second or 2 since I made the overworld smaller, which will be instead linked together instead of being a huge terrain.
The story line is a little stiff right now, but so far I had Mike at his house needing to visit Dr. J to look at some strange artifacts, since Baboo couldn't make it.
In order to go there you'll need to go to level 1 to get it from a strangely outraged person who's stole it and is keeping in the top floor.
Storylines aren't too easy. I'll think about your Atlantis idea, but I was thinking about Mike going into space past a bit half the game.
I made the name be Zoda's Revenge 2 and I need to somehow put Zoda back into the scene, and the best way I can think is going to Zoda's planet where he somehow was reborn again.
By the way Matt, if you're curious, this is a totally new engine I made from scratch, not the one I gave you.

So what's the status? What you had done last time I played the demo was a radical start, and I think I speak for more than just myself when I say I'm curious to know how its going.

Status is that the project is on hold for now. nothing new. I've been too lazy to work on the game. I'll try to start it back up here someday soon.
The whole outline of the game, is that I want Mike to start out in Seattle, finally go to where he's from, interact with Dr. Jones more. Later, I want Mike to go into space, I want Zoda to have some type of home planet. Maybe something like Dragon Ball Z and the Freeza thing, they find out Zoda was destroyed, and they use all their technology to make the ultimate Zoda, Mike has to end it all and destroy Zoda and his planet before Zoda does so to Earth.
The artifact Doctor Jones found will be some type of device that was from Zoda's ship that told Zoda's planet that Zoda is dead, and is making citizens turn evil in Seattle like the first and second dungeon boss.
The aliens from Zoda's Planet will be sending special soldiers and aliens to destroy Mike.
I'll roll down to Mike going to space, going to the new rebuilt Argonia to get new technologic weapons to help defeat Zoda.

Thanks Gellin! Yeah, I think I finally nailed the engine I wanted with this. I'm sure I'll bring this somewhere, it'll just take time.

I now made it so you can't fall off of ledges, just like in the original ZR game.
-edit- Hole/water hazard detection has been rescripted, making it way better and closer to ZR. Say goodbye to bogus cheatsy pitfall deaths!

Day/Night and time added. What do you guys think of the game having time based events?

I approve of the day night cycle it reminds me of zombies at my neighbors. Time based events would be even better but I figure harder to implement

Nah it shouldn't be too hard.
I think I'll apply it this way: After you go to Dr. J's lab in Seattle, it turn to night, and he'll decide to lend you a watch, after that, the time system is turned on so you can now see time and the day/night cycles.
Time based events could be talking to NPCs at certain times, maybe getting to them before a time deadline. I could have places that open only at certain times as well.
A lot can be done with the time system that will tie in with achieving your goals in the game.

So far, everything in this game looks pretty good. I'll be looking forward to the finished game.
