I get the feeling Nintendo was planning on making a StarTropics III. But, now that Nintendo doesn't seem to care about it anymore, maybe it could be used in a fan game or something.
Warning: major StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge spoilers are coming up. If you haven't beaten the game yet, you may not want to scroll down.
In chapter 6 of StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge, Mica revealed to Mike that the aliens had learned how to travel through time, and that they had brainwashed Dr. J. At the end of the game, you save Mica, her six siblings, and the town of Coralcola. Mica says she has "many things to tell you." But she doesn't get to say a word because her father takes her back to Argonia. Everybody in the town celebrates the return of their hero, Mike. Everybody except Dr. J, who doesn't even seem to be there. Very peculiar.
I'm guessing Nintendo was planning another sequel in which the brainwashed Dr. J revives Zoda or something. I don't know. Am I missing something here, or is this a valid theory?

Dr. J was never at C-Island to begin with so its no wonder he wasn't there at the end. He was back in Seattle. Aslo I assume the aliens had brainwashed and had not kidnapped him. I'm not sure, I haven't played it in awhile.

But, if he was in Seattle and Mica was on C-Island, how would she have known about it? Maybe she communicated telepathically with Dr. J or something. XD

That's certainly a very observent comment, Cleveland Rock (welcome to the boards, btw!). It's definitely something to take into consideration. Maybe the Revolution (or Wii) is a way in which Nintendo can gauge the game's popularity (which we can all contribute to!) to see if it's worth making a 3rd. One thing to take into consideration for ZR's lack of popularity is the fact that it was one of the very last NES games to be released because all of Nintendo's attention was being put on the SNES, which was booming in stores at that time.

I'm not particularly convinced by this one thread. As hopeful as I am about a 3rd game, that's not enough "proof" for me.

If you mean my thread, I wasn't trying to suggest there will be a ST3, but rather that they were originally planning one. Anyway, I have a new bit of speculation. Mike Jones is an ace pitcher from Seattle. Nintendo owns the Seattle Mariners. Get it? I forgot to mention something. Early in the game of StarTropics 2, Mike is referred to as "a southpaw reliever." "Southpaw" is a term used for pitchers who throw with their left hand. Why does he use his right hand in the game? Anyone notice that, or am I just a nerd?

Maybe he's ambidextrous (I probably spelled that slightly wrong), and he doesn't want to wear out his pitching arm. ;D Hmmmm… True… But you think he'd use his best arm for saving the world, rather than baseball. *shot*

Star Tropics 3 is a dream come true...too bad it's only a silly rumor, and apparently a joke on that thread. :\ However, I do think that your theory makes for an interesting point. The aliens could travel through time...then wouldn't they use that to their advantage? They popped up wherever it was convenient, only to get the Tetrads. And, perhaps this is off topic, but isn't it weird how they didn't get any at all? They appeared in whatever place in the past Mike was. Maybe I'm delving too far into this? xD Sorry for the rant, sometimes I think a bit too much. :p

Forget the Hollywood mess. If I was host, I'd have Wheel tape on C-Island. :)

Wow. Haven't I missed a lot... I don't believe such things until I see a statement from Nintendo, or a clip from a source like gamepro, gamefaqs, so I wouldn't have believed that for an instant... LOL As for the time travel biz. The way I took it, the aliens didn't know about the Oxford Wonder World, which delved Mike into 7 SPECIFIC periods and geographical locations in space and time (or spacetime, for fellow physicists ). Unless they had the OWW itself in their hands, they probably could not have had much of an idea about where they could find any of the tetrads over the 20,000 years, give or take, that Mike ends up zapping back and forth between, except maybe Camelot, given the whole Merlin deal... BTW Cleveland, it's good to be an ST nerd. Such people are what causes companies like Nintendo to make SEQUELS!!!! ;D
