Has anyone here ever played the NES games based on the BTF trilogy? There are two cartridges: Back To The Future and Back To The Future II and III. What I think would be cool is for there to be a cartridge with all three games on it, complete with a Save feature. This would be especially useful for the II game, since that can take a darn long time to complete.
For the people who have never played these games, in the first one, you have about sixteen obstacle courses, each involving running down the street, dodging a lot of stuff. You can pick up a bowling ball, which helps to knock some of the obstacles out of the way, and a skateboard, which helps you get to the end of the street before your timer runs out. Picking up the clocks you see along the way helps to keep the picture of Marty, his sister, and brother from fading away as fast (because if it fades away, you lose a life).
After clearing four obstacle courses, you reach a special level. The first of these takes place in the coffee shop, in which you have to ward off bullies by throwing shakes at them. I think if you nail 50 of them before any of them grab you and throw you across the bar, you get to go on to the next level, though getting 100 increases your points.
The next special level takes place in a classroom, in which you have to use a book to ward off Lorraine's kisses. I think you have to block 100 or 200 of them.
In the third special level, you're at the dance, playing the guitar. Music notes bounce in from both sides of the screena and, before the picture of Marty and his siblings fades away, you have to catch as many notes as you can in Marty's guitar (or his hand, I think). Doing this helps to raise George & Lorraine's love meter higher and higher and when it gets to the top, they kiss.
After four more obstacle courses, you're taken to the climax, where Marty has to travel back to 1985. You have to guide the DeLorean down the street, dodging lightning flashes which slow you down. That's not good, because you have to get the car up to 88 mph by the time you reach the clock tower. The other special levels, if you fail, all you have to do is clear one obstacle course and you get to try again, so long as you have lives left. But the clock tower scene, you only get one chance, regardless of how many lives you have. If you fail, the dreaded message "Sorry, Marty, it looks like you're stuck here" appears on the screen and the game is over.
Back To The Future II and III, now that's a different game altogether. In II, you have to find thirty different objects, each of which was seen in one of the Back To The Future games. You have to travel back and forth between 1955, 1985 and 2015, retrieving these items (do this by completing thirty different obstacle courses) and putting them in their proper places, each located in a sewer pipe, believe it or not. In the pipes, you see a scrambled word. Unscramble the word and you get what item that you need. (Writing locations down is very helpful here). Ten of these items belong in each year. I can't describe the game any better than that, since it's been years since I've played it.
Back To The Future III is easier (although the obstacle courses are a little harder). But the items appear on the same screen as the obstacle course in which you found them. And you only need ten items for this.
To start in the Old West, you can input the code: FLUXCAPACITORISTHEPOWER.
Anyway, even though the two games are completely different, I don't see why the games couldn't be put into a single cartridge or disc. Who knows, maybe someday they will.
