nice...i really liked that. expecally the Wal-Mart part! LMAO! I hope it gets on though. and as with the paper? who needs it! we have this board, gamefaqs.com, IGN, and meny other places to get the code (747). So the paper won't be nessicery and it should make it on. At least...I hope so *Crosses fingers*

I thought the original ST and STII were already confirmed for download on the Wii? Maybe I mixed that up (won't be the first time, I think). Anyway, it was interesting how they pointed out that Nintendo will have to get around the 747 issue in order to make ST downloadable. Maybe they'll include the letter with every new Wii console they sell in the stores... LOL AND, if the ST virtual console DL's do well, hopefully Nintendo will consider a brand new game for the system...

Hey guys, Lucas here - I wrote the Retro Remix StarTropics article for IGN Wii. Just wanted to stop in and say that I'm glad you enjoyed reading it - I just took over the Retro Remix feature, and I went straight to StarTropics for my first installment.
So yeah, you guys rock. StarTropics rocks, one of my favorites from the NES, and most importantly I'm really impressed with the C-Island site. I looks great, and actually uses game sprites as an effective part of the site design - so many sites out there do such a bad job integrating them, going for the old-school look. You guys actually pull it off.
Anyway, just a short note. I hope you guys will keep on reading Retro Remix, and maybe even check out my book when it comes out next month. It's called Eight Bit Era, and it's all about the games of the NES.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go pull these bananas out of my ears...

Yes, great article! I'm glad some people out there in VG land see how original and unique StarTropics was. ;D
Welcome and good luck with the book!

Anyway I also thought it was already confirmed. It wasn't confirmed, but it was probable. There's a list somewhere of probable titles. Also, welcome article writer lucasthomas! You be awesome in the StarTropics 'hood yo! ...I apologize for that

Great article, Lucas! It's good to know we have such an avid ST fan working in the midst of big names such as the people at IGN. Is there any chance that you may be able to pass on word of this site and its hopeful members to Nintendo to try and persuade them to make a new game for the Wii? If not...it's the thought that counts.
Thanks for your contribution here, and I hope to see you around more, if you get the chance.

I'll use any opportunity I get to remind Nintendo of the fan support for franchises like StarTropics - but the best message in this business is money.
Here's what I would suggest. You all have a great, established community of dedicated fans here. You have the potential to make yourselves heard - you just have to organize. I'm sure you're all familiar with Starmen.net's Petition for Mother 3. They got thousands of people to sign their name in support of a Mother sequel and, shockingly for some, Nintendo took notice. Mother 3 was developed and released in Japan. Now you can't give all the credit to Starmen, but you can give them some - they proved to the Big N that the fans were there.
For StarTropics, I don't recommend a petition. Because there's an even bigger opportunity - the Virtual Console. What you guys need to do is put together an initiative raising awareness of StarTropics. Get people thinking about the game, interested in the game, curious about the game. If you go out and spread the word that this was one of the best games most people missed on the NES, people are going to want to correct that oversight from their childhood. They're going to want to play it.
StarTropics will probably be available for download on the VC. I don't think the 747 issue is really that huge of a deal. So your goal is to get as many people as possible to pay for and download StarTropics on their Wii.
It's not that tough of a sale - NES games will probably only be a couple of bucks. You should be able to motivate tons of gamers to make a casual spend like that. And if you're successful, Nintendo will see it - they'll see that StarTropics is getting 10 or 20 times more downloads than other NES titles being offered. It will prove to them that an audience for the franchise exists, and that's the first step toward a revival.
Why do you think Pit from Kid Icarus is playable in the next Smash Bros? Fan support. When the fans get loud enough, Nintendo listens. With enough StarTropics downloads, Nintendo would definitely respond. Maybe Mike Jones would become a Smash Bros fighter. Maybe a new StarTropics game would be planned. Maybe we'd get "Mikes Jones' Super Yo-Yo Simulation" for the Wii.
Anything's possible. Use your resources - a great website and a great community. Get the word out and get people to download StarTropics when the Wii comes out.
I've started the ball rolling for you, with the thousands of people who've now read my Retro Remix article. Take that momentum and use it. Don't let it get away.

;D You've got some good ideas there Lucas! I had just read the article and noticed how enthusiastic and knowledgeable the author was about this game, and decided to look at the author wondering if it was one of the well-known IGN writers, (like Matt or something) so when I came here to post/see if someone had posted, about this article I saw and recognized your screenname About the 747 thing, I'm thinking there might be (or should be) a hints page for each game available for download, where things like this could be shown on the Wii. Also, thinking about the previous, nintendo will likely offer scans of the original instruction booklets of the VC games for sale, so a scan of the letter with the 747 watermark might be included... "So the next time you feel bad about a game not getting a localization and making it out of Japan - hey, at least we got StarTropics." - nice Anyways your suggestion gives me an idea... check back on the ST talk in a couple of days...For everyone whos questioning the VC support of ST, nintendo hasn't officially confirmed any NES games (to my knowledge) but games like mario and Zelda are no-brainers, and I really don't think theres any reason for nintendo not putting it on

All you say Lucas is VERY correct, but (and I know this goes without saying), what you recommend is a lot easier said then done. It's always like that!! When we got this new (and much better than the original) forum, we tried to start an initiative to inform ppl about ST. We started the petition a couple of years ago, there's an article on Wikipedia on ST, and a stub on ST2 that hopefully somebody (maybe me) will be adding to shortly. We'd love to circulate ads about ST around the internet (shout out to Icarus), but most of us are strapped for money, so I don't know exactly how that would happen. In other words, (and I'm not trying to be argumentative with any of this) the people here have been trying to do stuff for some time now to raise awareness for ST, but I think ideas are a bit short at this point as to how ELSE to get the ST name out in the public. Any ideas that ANYBODY, forum members or not, could provide to raise ST awareness would be greatly appreciated. ;D

I say that for now we use the add in forum signitures when Wii comes out. This will hopefully add to the amount of people that download ST. Hopefully if ST get enough downloads Nintendo will be convinced that a ST3 should be made.
I'm sure that has all been said before
If that dosn't work then we are going to need somthing really big. But I think the japan release of Startropics on the VC will help alot.

Well, I figured that since the old MySpace was popular, I'd create a group: groups.myspace.com/StarTropicsIt's a start, all I need is to spread awareness without being a spammer... If ye be on the myspace, please join & invite your fellow comrades Or, create a dummy account and spam away, seeing as you don't care what happens to said account Also, give me suggestions for what to put where, for I am not the best mod, but I will try!!!!! Also, coralcola, thanks for the shout out
