Who gets the magazine GameInformer here?
If you do, you've probably noticed (or, at least when you get this month's issue, which should be very soon), that to celebrate their 200th issue, they've compiled, after much agony and scrutiny and time and effort and a whole buncha other stuff, their list of the 200 greatest VG's of all time...
After going through it, and after seeing a uncountable slew of other such lists over the years, I have to admit, GI's I feel is, IMHO, the best such list that's been publishedl.
Classics are given huge respect, and the whole concept I've touched on before on how such lists need to account for not only a game's pure gameplay (which modern ones will almost always beat out the older ones all the time then), but their popularity and influence in the industry and how well they've stood the test of time is well-represented here.
The game they named number one is one of maybe 2 or 3 I'd feel would ever deserve the title, and the one I would've voted for without question (as I'm sure a lot of others here would've too). The video games that made the top 10 I also feel deserve, in one form or another, to be there, and lots of games that are personal favorites of mine made the list, which if nothing else, makes me feel like I have good taste, lol (I know in many regards, MJ will also be with me here).
All told, after a quick count, less than 10 feet from me in hard-copy-real-life non-downloaded/hacked form are about 50 of the 200 games the list mentions. About a dozen or so other games on the list are ones I've been on the hunt for for awhile, reaffirming my belief I should continue their hunt. Makes me feel proud once more to have these games in my collection.
So major uber radicola props to GameInformer and the crew. A spectacular list, spectacular issue (as always), and I'll be loving to see what your next 200 issues bring forth to the VG world.
