This has been a wretched week in Hollywood, oy. In case you haven't heard: latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/06/pop-star-michael-jackson-was-rushed-to-a-hospital-this-afternoon-by-los-angeles-fire-department-paramedics--capt-steve-ruda.htmlFarrah Fawcett also succumbed to cancer, and Ed McMahon, 2nd banana to Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show, also died. Wretched, wretched, wretched week. Michael's moreso than the others, I was sort of prepared (as much as you can over a person's death) for Ed's and Farrah's losses, but Michael... ho.. lee... mo... lee... As a longtime big fan and general concerned citizen, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. No doubt in my mind, Michael will now end up taking a path similar to Elvis... So many... taken too young...

I heard about this from a friend and I was shocked. Playing Michael Jackson's Moonwalker on the Genesis will never be the same now .

I heard about this from my sister. I actually enjoyed watching his commercials, just for the humor factor though . He will me missed as well .

I dont mean to offend anyone, but I think its crazy how much people are going on about MJ. He was a talented singer, I'll admit, but the man was a nutjob. People say he was an inspiration to black people, but what does it say when he turned himself white? And just because one jury says he's innocent, I'm not convinced that he wasnt guilty. Humans are flawed and MJ is a prime example. The fact that people praise his name just because he is a good singer and dancer is ridiculous to me. Again I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm failing to understand the MJ love. On a side note I was even more shocked that I didnt hear a word about Farrah Fawcett on the day she passed away. Thats a massive slap in the face if i've ever seen one. And I will miss Billy

It's definitely a big hit to many demographics having all these deaths lately. I can't say I'll miss hearing Billy Mays' voice (it was rather annoying). As for your statement, Matt...I understand where you're coming from. However, the reason the media is taking hold of MJ's death so much is because he had more impact on the pop music industry than just about anyone else out there. And he didn't "turn himself white"...he had a skin disease that caused de-pigmentation in his skin, which is why in his later years, he had a much lighter complexion. This might also account for all the surgery he had over the years...I don't know, really. And it's a darn shame I never heard about Ed McMahon...no giant surprise check at the door for me...

I agree with you Matt, I couldn't believe that Farrah Faucet had also died on the very same day. I was like "Uh.. no way..?"
But MJ was probably the first Music icon I knew, so I couldn't help but pay more attention to him.
I love his music. I know the man wasn't a sane person. I don't know if he was REALLY into molestation (though the plot in the Genesis game Moonwalker left me thinking...) but what successful music composer is sane?
There are heavy rumors on the verge of confirmation that Michael Jackson worked on the soundtrack for Sonic 3. There are a lot of songs in that game that are full of MJ style (some that even sound very alike) so that's how I got to listen to his songs.
I wasn't a big fan of Ms. Faucet, I know she was a famous actress back in the day, it's just that MJ remained famous throughout all my childhood, so I knew a bit more about him than her.
Still, yeah. It's a huge slap to the face to Farrah Faucet. And now Billy Mays, though I might've seen him once on TV before.
What grinds my gears about people in general, though, is that they wait till the minute a great artist dies for them to BUY more of his/her products...

Correct and correct. I'd even dare say MJ is the most influential entertainer in the past 50 years (with maybe Elvis possibly a candidate). I know people who have the same skin disorder MJ had too. Their skin literally turns white, like what MJ's was after he supposedly bleached it. In a position like his where image is almost EVERYTHING, it doesn't surprise me he did what he did. About the only other option he had was to bust out a crayon... As for his other things, I won't disagree that they're a bit out there, but there was no scientific evidence that he did anything to those kids. I'm not saying he's innocent, those kinds of things just ask for trouble. I may not do drugs, but I wouldn't dare walk down a dark alleyway in the middle of NYC in the middle of the night by myself, even though I wouldn't be doing anything illegal. It just asks for trouble... Either way, his influence on so many people cannot be disregarded, and that is why I think people need to show some sort of respect for him, much like to every human being on Earth (maybe with Hitler as one of a few exceptions). I'm a fan of Charlie's Angels, so Farrah was a favorite of mine, and one of the few blondes I actually thought was attractive (I'm blonde, but apparently I like brunettes, lol). She was a fighter against the cancer, and her loss is saddening. I also grew up with Ed McMahon on the Tonight Show, but I knew he wasn't doing well. His dealings with Publishers Clearing House angered me though, but he was still a wonderful icon of classic TV, whose career needs to be studied as to how one SHOULD approach their career in Hollywood. And I knew about Billy Mays wayyyy back in the 90's when he first got started, he made me laugh then, and he did up to now (one way or another). May them all RIP. /EDIT: Am I reading that right? 1500 POSTS!? Holy moly. *Places a call to his life... beep...beep...beep...beep... No answer...*

I guess I never really knew him as an entertainer, just as the guy in bed with children. I'm also not a fan of pop either, maybe that has somethin to do with it. I'm not really sure what to think of his skin color, I've heard its a disease, then I've heard other people say they've known people with the disease and it gives white patches but not like that. Idk but no one can deny the 50 or so nosejobs is a little too much.
I won't deny his impact on culture, only his character. I don't save much respect for guys that dangle their children over balconys

One click on this link will send you to the arcade room owned by the King of Pop. pinsane.com/pinorama/events/MJ_09/kr/michael_jackson_arcade_entry.htmlI don't see the Moonwalker arcade anywhere. I guess he disliked owning one for some reason, but if we see it, then I'm wrong. The most interesting things in his arcade room in my opinion are these: * NBA HangTime (I think I still have the N64 version, and this game is pretty much the best basketball game I've ever played.) * A Super NES in a stand-up cabinet * Neo-Geo MVS cabinet (There are four games in it, but I can't tell what they are.) * Galaxy Force (Version II) * SEGA's R-360 * Super Mario Bros. arcade * Two Data East arcades: Karate Champ and Caveman Ninja. * That Nintendo arcade behind Midway's Pac-Man cabinet, which is probably Donkey Kong or another arcade version of an NES title. And the most interesting of all is this.
