NOTE: TMNT is an abbr. for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
To me, I'd prefer the 2003 series, because of its superior character development, more consistent animation, daring plot twists, less wackyness, more violence and grimming, better voice acting, special profanity (like "What the shell was that?" and "Ah, shell."), and more consistent story arc, which often follows the Mirage comic books closely.
I have watched the 1987 series, and I used to enjoy it, the theme song made me retarded. The movies based on the same series were okay. Then I lost my interest to it. I barely noticed The Next Mutation, but never did watch it. Then, when I saw the 2003 series while I was recording as many Kirby episodes as possible, I enjoyed it, and I still do today.
Which series would you prefer?

I voted for the 1987 series since I've really only seen the first few episodes of the new cartoon. The new cartoon seemed pretty good but I got side-tracked on Saturday mornings and have no idea what's going on anymore. I was obsessed with them as a child and had tons of toys and TMNT comics. In fact, I helped the guys at this site put together this page www.thetechnodrome.com/comics/ with all of my comic cover scans. Most of my childhood was spent with the old series so that's what I prefer. Plus the TMNT arcade game from that era can not be topped. The first couple of movies were pretty good too.

Plus the TMNT arcade game from that era can not be topped. In many people's opinions (not including mine), Turtles in Time > Original TMNT arcade > TMNT 2 NES.

Ahh, part of my Saturday morning TV routine used to be the original TMNT. A wonderful segment of my TV history indeed... I haven't seen the original in years, and the new ones don't have the same feel (at least with what I'm used to) that the original had. It was both hilarious and action-packed, and had me hooked for years... GO RAPHAEL!!! ;D

1987. All the way. I don't care about new-fangled turtles who also ride bikes and scooters as well as skateboards, 1987.

The movies were awesome! (the third was pretty downhill, though). The cartoons were cool as a kid, but they're just nostalgic cool now. (you see, animation is my actual career).
Me and some friends used to spend every Thursday watching mostly the new TMNT series. I liked the old stuff more, but the new one can be neat. The show would have been really awesome if it was produced by WB instead (you can see some of the concept art at http://www.ninjaturtles.com). I mean, the BatMan animated series was awesome -- just imagine what goofy funny and awesome action shows they could have done for TMNT!
Gellin, the old comics were awesome! They have some really great artwork in them. I really like the design of the earliest Ninja Turles.
As for the games.... TMTN 2/arcade version were AWESOME! For me, Turtles in Time comes in second, although it's a close second because it was one wicked game!

I'm gonna have to go w/ the original cartoon. It was part of my Saturday-morning ritual to watch TMNT when I was a kid...and that's what I grew up with. Then I saw the movie and that was cool. When they started doing re-makes of the cartoon series...I was completely dis-interested.

1987 all the way. Even if it was three years before I was born, I like it the best. I grew up playing TMNT, TMNT2, and TMNT3 The Manhatten Project, which no one seemed to mention. I thought the third one was awesome. The Next Mutation, was that the one where they tried to make TMNT in like... real world terms or however you would say it. I watched it a little but it never beat the original. I thought the new TMNT captured the personalities of the original really well, but it just couldn't beat it. I haven't seen parts of the movies, but not the entire things so I can't comment on those.

The Manhattan project was a dope game. I still own the first TMNT game for NES & Turtles In Time For SNES.
