Hey everyone! i've been a StarTropics fan since i was three. i even have a memory of fighting Dodos from before I had ever played ST (weird, eh?). I digress though. The point of this thread is to try and bake the noodles of some of the best ST fans...even I can't answer these!
1. If the strait in level 5 is deep enough for Captain Bell's entire ship to sink in, why doesn't Sub C just submerge under the ship?
2. On a related note, if the memorial to Captain Bell was built after he died, why is there a "secret" song that let's you into his cave, which is filled with monsters anyway? why would the townsfolk of Bellcola create something like that?
3. What is the significance of the shapes of certain bodies of water in the caves. i.e. the inverted crosses in chapters 3 and 5.
4. Who the hell is the game master, and why can't you tell him Po's Poem?
5. If Merlin is all powerful, why can't he just defeat the friggin monsters?
if anyone can come up with some answers, that would be great hahaha

I'll try to take a whack at a few ;D.
Q1. If the strait in level 5 is deep enough for Captain Bell's entire ship to sink in, why doesn't Sub C just submerge under the ship?
A1. Captain Bell's ship isn't actually in the straight, it is blocking the straight. My guess is that the straigh is very shallow and that if the Sub C did submerge, the ship would still be blocking the straight.
Q2. On a related note, if the memorial to Captain Bell was built after he died, why is there a "secret" song that let's you into his cave, which is filled with monsters anyway? why would the townsfolk of Bellcola create something like that?
A2. Captain Bell's ship is meant as protection, and the townsfolk didn't want just anyone going in there to sink it, so I'm sure they tried to put extra protection on it
Q3. What is the significance of the shapes of certain bodies of water in the caves. i.e. the inverted crosses in chapters 3 and 5?
A3. I would say probably to represent the Southern Cross, however I don't know why they are inverted.
Q4. Who the hell is the game master, and why can't you tell him Po's Poem?
A4. I have often wondered this myself. I'm guessing that the guys that made the game put this in there and that is possible that there is something we all missed, but someone who worked on the game a.k.a. a game master would know.
Q5. If Merlin is all powerful, why can't he just defeat the friggin monsters?
A5. Merlin may not like recognition, a.k.a. being a hero, or maybe he feels that fighting the montsters may teach Mike something.... I'm not really sure.

i guess those make sense...except, for Bell's tunnel...i guess the townsfolk didn't think Bell's traps would stop everyone lol
and maybe the game master was an element of the game that the programers cut out before the final release, but for some reason or another left part of it in...who knows...?

Po's Poem has annoyed me as long as I've had the game. My question is, if there was a way to put in Po's poem, what would your reward be??? Would you automatically go to Zoda's spaceship, or maybe you'll get a Vitamin X or unlimited life or... About the Captain Bell cave: Remember, those monster's are ZODA's, not the townsfolk. I happen to believe that since there was no other way for Sub-C to get past the area we know as chapter 5, Zoda figured that was the best place to place those traps to prevent Mike from getting any closer to him. Also, Zoda could've felt that maybe Mike wouldn't be able to get into the cave by figuring out and playing the right song, which would also have impeded him from proceeding on. BTW, anything that has a resemblance to a cross I believe most definitely refers to the Southern Cross in the game.

Po's poem definitely annoyed the crap outta me when I first played the game. I swear that there's GOT to be a way to answer him...oh well.
I also remember NP's references to Captain Bell being a bowler and whatnot...so I may have to agree with thesyndicate on this one...as in the traps were Bell's...but the mosters were Zoda's. It's a decent theory...so I may as well stick with it haha.

I have one more: While Cap. Bell's ship is sinking, an American patriotic song is played; God Bless America or something like that. Hey, I thought the old chap was British!

Need I remind you that the melody of today's national anthem was stolen from England's old anthem: "God save the King"

The "sinking" song that was played was "My country tis of thee" written by Samuel Smith in 1832, just so there was no confusion. That did seem slightly out of place for what was happening, but it was still fun to watch and listen to. And yes, some patriotic American music was taken from already penned British tunes. Oh well, what are ya gonna do with the U.S. ??
