When I saw the commercial for the first StarTropics, the box art seen in it stayed in my mind. When I went to rent some NES titles at a movie rental store, I saw it on the shelf, became curious and rented it. When I started playing it, I enjoyed it, until I couldn't understand how to beat Octo in the second underworld. I thought the baseball bat was a hint on beating Octo, by hitting the oil pellets back at it, but I was incorrect. So every time I beat C-Serpent and leave C-Island, I always reset and repeat the same thing I did, while showing my father and brother beat C-Serpent. When I saw the commercial for the new NES, Mega Man 6 and Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, I firmly laughed myself off while kind of acting silly and imitating that teenage boy. I didn't feel like renting or buying Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, because I didn't have my NES back then. Also, I thought it wasn't the sequel to the original StarTropics. When I came to JoshCube's Smash Brothers Online fan site and saw Mike's profile with this fan art, instead of FryGuy64's frequently-used fan art now being used, my StarTropics memories slowly came back to me. Right now, every time I think of the exact place I first played the original StarTropics, it will make me think of the game itself. For my first time playing Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II, it made me feel the same way I felt when I first played MOTHER 3/GBA EarthBound. The best beach moment in my life was when I went to Jekyll Island, Georgia, one night, I saw a quiet thunderstorm with colorful lightning bolts. I also saw the Moon being very red and the water being a little lit up. I wish that would remind me of the StarTropics series.

At my workplace (I currently work at Panera Bread), we sell these lovely little drinks called Jones Sodas. Ironically, their headquarters is located in Seattle, Washington. No joke.
EDIT: Ah! I also forgot to mention that on my first day of working there, a customer came in wearing a Crosby, Stills n' Nash "Southern Cross" shirt. I actually asked him about it out of curiosity, and he said he got it at a concert, and that it was his favorite song of theirs.

MMM, Jones soda, I've loved that stuff since I was little... Never realized it was based in Seattle though. Somebody else thinking Genyo Takeda might be a fan too?

Yep, address's on the bottle and everything. I saw that the first time and just thought "oh wow. Seriously?" Green Apple and Berry Lemonade are my two favorite flavors. ...and Takeda a fan of Jones Sodas? Ha hah, that's a rather amusing mental image.

My goodness, another "StarTropics-in-Real-Life" finding by yours truly. I swear, they just happen! It's not like I go looking for them... Anyhow, this afternoon I was browsing the Wii News channel while eating lunch, and one International News article hosted the name of a certain fictional famous archaeologist...

I realize I'm bringing up a topic that is well over 6 years old, and I apologize if that's bad etiquette. But I really would like to share just how much this absolutely wonderful series has affected my life. My mom bought me the first game back when I was a kid, although I honestly can't remember exactly when this was. It was in the early 90's though, I can tell ya that. I played it like any kid would, but didn't get all that far. I, like so many others before me, got stuck on the infamous 747 code part of the game in Chapter 4. There are two things that make my situation all the more pathetic compared to most peoples', though: First, I actually got the game with both the instruction manual and the letter attached. I somehow lost the letter while playing with it before I had got to that point. Second, I distinctly remember sitting down one evening and inputting every possible code in order to figure out what the right code was. The sad part? I WENT THROUGH EVERY POSSIBLE COMBINATION UNTIL I GAVE UP WHILE I WAS IN THE EARLY 700'S! Quite a few years later (during the early 2000's IIRC, when I was a young teen), I found the code on the internet and used it to FINALLY get past Chapter 4. Sadly, by this time, I had purchased a Game Genie, and used that to get through the rest of the game instead of beating it legitimately. And to this day, I have not beaten StarTropics legitimately. When I finish my current gaming projects, however, this will be one of the first things on my list! But, now to the point of me posting in this really old topic. I will admit that I'm not all THAT familiar with the second game, having purchased it only two or three years ago, but the first game is the second most nostalgic video game of my entire life. (The only one that is more nostalgic to me is the game my username is based off, Xexyz, which is somehow even more overlooked and underappreciated than StarTropics IMO.) StarTropics just exudes this magical and special aura to me, despite it being a "mere" 8-bit game on the NES. The tropical setting, the memorable dungeons and the absolutely fantastic music just make it truly unforgettable to me. As a side note about the music...the main dungeon theme from the first game is the first song I ever learned how to play fully (as in both right- and left-handed) on the piano/keyboard. I unfortunately can't say that I've ever been to the tropics, but I definitely plan on making it to at least some tropical spot someday. Even so, places with beautiful sunrises/sunsets (such as northern Michigan, which is my home state) do occasionally remind me of the game that had such an unspeakable effect on me and my youth. I discovered Erico's beautiful fanfic in...2008 or so (thanks to the old StarTropics HQ website), and it has just increased my love for these games all the more. I don't mean to sound like a gushing fanboy or a butt-kisser here, but that fic brought the characters that I had grown up with to life in a way I never could have thought possible. Whenever I play the game again, I just have to stop on C-Island and reflect on all my memories and experiences. And honestly, any mention of the series at all brings a smile to my face that nothing else can bring. StarTropics, to me, is more than just an 8-bit NES game. It is something that has represented my childhood. Something I can always go back to. It's like an old friend that you see maybe once every two-three years, but whom you can always rest your shoulder on and think of old, nostalgic times (this despite its pretty darn challenging nature!) Well, I've rambled on enough. I do realize that my post is probably more sentimental than should be when talking about a video game, and you can feel free to call me out on that. But still, I do believe deep down that the Southern Cross has that unmistakeable magical presence that draws all of us ST fans to it...

That was a nice read. Amen to this: Yeah, words can't express how much this game means to me, and my early years of gaming. When I was a young lad, I pretended one of my little Lego figures would be Mike, and I'd build Lego dungeons for him! (Mainly, the platforms, lol). Then there's also those innumerable times when I recycled the ST plot and applied it to my Mighty Max figure when he invaded the Z-bots spaceship, lol. Great times. Then there's also me taking a Yo-yo on every family vacation, or trip to Disneyland or any other theme park. It's a shame this franchise never saw a jump to 3D... I would expect it turning somewhat like Mega Man Legends, due to the island exploration, then the Dungeon combats, the platforming and switch activating, the boss battles, etc. Every year that I used to go to my house on the beach, I would plug in my earphones and listen to the complete soundtrack of ST1 and ST2. And I would daydream about the game, and follow-up plots or prequels.. (Not to mention go down to the beach and jump from rock to rock).

Not gonna lie, that's pretty awesome that you used to build dungeons with Legos I wish I would have thought of that! I used to play with Legos all the time! In my case though, I would always build Lego "guns" so I could play spies or something, lol.

I wish had the talent to build ST dungeons with Legos... I must show something off to the peeps here. A new addition to my tropical loft (which, again, I trace back to ST as to why I am so enamored with tropical stylings in the first place, as I've mentioned prior in this thread) is this piece I saw in an "old haunt" of my family's at the Outer Banks and proclaimed out loud: I MUST OWN THAT! (and now, as you can see, I do) P.S. The also very appropriately included Saharan camel (like in ST2) which I have owned for many years and the tiki hut in the background are included at no extra charge.

Wow that's an awesome setup that you have there! The birds look great, and I really like the huts in the background! I'm very fond of tropical settings as well and I wouldn't be surprised if StarTropics had something to do with that.
