More and more as time goes by, the more it seems Nintendo pretends StarTropics doesn't exist. Can they at least throw a reference in SSB? Seems? Nintendo hasn't remembered the series in almost 20 years. Heck, we were lucky to get the games on Wii's Virtual Console. Plus, the only reference the series ever got in SSB was two separate lines on Brawl's Chronicles list. No stickers, no music, no nothing.

I don't know if it's so much that they are forgetting that StarTropics exists, rather it's that Nintendo of Japan doesn't even know that StarTropics exists. If someone went to Nintendo of Japan and asked how many people working there knew what StarTropics was I would be surprised if even 10% did. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if less than 10% of people working at Nintendo of America know what StarTropics is, and it's kind of hard to throw in a reference to something that no one knows about.

But we at least know someone from the Brawl development team knows StarTropics, since it was at least listed there.
Maybe that was a thing of Nintendo of America/Europe. I wonder if the game is listed in the Chronicles section of the Japanese version... hmm.

I actually have no idea how the Chronicle worked in the Japanese version. Were Famicom exclusives listed on the NES chronicle? If not then StarTropics probably wasn't on their list. Also, every time I see Iwata holding bananas I always think of StarTropics.

I think they're responsible for the new Donkey Kong game. If it's Donkey Kong I'm going to be mad. They just did that like 3 years ago, so why do they have to say "An IP that no one thought anyone dared to touch" And yet it's already been touched, BY THE SAME COMPANY 3 YEARS AGO? That's like saying I'm making something we never had in a long time for dinner, pizza, even though we just had it yesterday! What false hype. That's what really bugs me. Not StarTropics? I can live with that, but if you're going to bill it as something nobody thought you had the guts to make, at least make it something obscure. Everyone knows what Donkey Kong Country is. *curses* Well, maybe another time.

The funny thing is that after they re-released the first DKCR game for the 3DS I just knew that they were doing it to get people excited for a new DKCR game, I just didn't think that they would be announcing it at E3.

Sorry for not quoting, but here goes:
I see what you guys mean. I too was misled in several ways.
"A new IP from Retro" how long have I heard this rumor, before it turned into:
"A ressurrected IP from Retro". to "A game nobody suspects is coming".
....please... While people STILL expected Metroid Prime 4, I had more realistic expectations that it would be DKC:R 2... except that wasn't ressurrection at all, therefore it had to be something actually obscure.
..But it was DKCR 2 in the end after all... sigh...
And here I thought that after Punch Out.... and after Pilot Wings... two of the 3 most Western Nintendo IPs, the next logical step would be a StarTropics revival. :,(
Just what do we have to do to get through to Nintendo? I WANT to get through, but I'm out of ideas. I would have to make one really sick StarTropics artwork with a gigantic NINTENDO logo for it to call their attention. Or stir something up when the 3DS/Wii U versions of ST are released.

Hmm. I was thinking more in line with things like Miiverse, but this could prove a bit useful too I guess. It's a start. We've had: Golden Sun Pilotwings Punch Out! Excite Bike (Wiiware) Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Sky Kid Icarus Uprising and subtle references to Nazo no Murasame Jo (at least in cameos) So I think Nazo would probably be next, in a "First time evuh!" Western release, I bet. Of course, we can't let it end there. For an Operation Rainfall type move we'd need a LOT of supporters (and I sure as heck don't see where they all came from, but I bet it consisted either in a large group of people tired of Nintendo's play-safe strategy, or in a group that's sick of being left out of Japanese games). *bangs head on keyboard* What to do, what to do, what to do... I'm surprised StarTropics is getting a good ammount of love in that thread! 4TH most mentioned game after F-Zero, Metroid, and Star Fox, from what it seems.

It's interesting though, Metroid doesn't really need reviving per se... (well, in terms of what we're talking about with bringing old franchises back, Other M was released just a couple of years ago, no matter how panned it was). I don't think that's what Reggie was targeting with his comments. Ice Climbers and F-Zero seem more in line with his statements (though the newest F-Zero isn't even ten years old). StarTropics could be on someone's radar though too... Let's make it number 1 or 2 in that comment thread!

Hmm the Miiverse actually hadn't even crossed my mind, that is a pretty good idea. And I completely agree with you Coralcola, that is exactly how I felt. Metroid has been getting enough attention lately, and I'm sure that it will be back in due time. But ya it is great to see that other people out there are also wishing for a new StarTropics game! I follow Nintendo on Facebook and every time they post I try to make a StarTropics related comment. Sometimes I see a few other people talking about StarTropics too, so it's great that there are still other ST fans out there!

I sometimes comment on Facebook too, mentioning StarTropics, but a lot of time I hold myself back because I'm usually the only guy doing it, lol.
Yeah, unfortunately I don't have a Wii U yet, so I can't join Miiverse. But... Miiverse helped convince Nintendo to bring Earthbound to the Western VC, so it has to be the closest link to Nintendo.
Especially for example in Smash Bros Miiverse where Sakurai posts once daily. It could be the perfect place for us to bring his attention.
By the time I get a Wii U it'll be too late, heheh.

We could spam Sora Sakurai's Twitter feed with StarTropics posts and graphics for the upcoming Smash game, like including Zoda's boar attacks, a variety of Mike's weapons, manual scans, etc... Also, if I recall correctly, Nintendo Power discussed some information about Zoda's Revenge for the SNES in nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Nintendo_Power_V227? Can anyone who has that tell us what that says? Oh, hey there. First post! How has your day/week been?

Hey! Welcome to the forums! Thanks for that encouraging first post. I had sort of thought about it, and back in October I did start sort of spamming him with images.. But I stopped since I don't want this franchise to be something he would look at with negativity. But you're right, we should still send StarTropics related stuff to his tweeter account. Just in a very respectable way. Not sure if you guys have heard, but apparently Sakurai is in a pain due to an arm injury caused by overworking himself on Super Smash Bros. Wii U /3DS. So... simply demanding and demanding will probably not get us too far. We'd have to be a lot classier than that. There is this new Tweeter trend called #YouCanDoItSakurai, I think, where people post words of encouragement to the developer himself. Would be good sending him TweetPics about StarTropics giving words of encouragement to him. At this point I can settle for a 3D trophy of any of the ST cast. (Zoda from F-Zero GX does not count).
