Anybody ever wondered about the bowling balls in the Captain Bell level? I remember bowling being a very strange experience when I was young primarily because of this game. But I digress, Giant Bowling Balls are a very interesting trap.

I guess that Captain Bell just really liked bowling! They definitely were an interesting idea, although I guess I never really thought about it too much when I was a kid and never really related it to actually bowling.

Influenced by Indiana Jones, maybe? We do see a lot of references to American history and culture in this game.

Yeah I actually was thinking of that. In a way, the game is a parody of Indiana Jones. Wouldn't surprise me since Japanese show a lot of interest in American film.
Whatever the reason it was silly. I always laugh when I see the giant bowling ball coming after me, until I get to the pink one that is. That one means business.

Forget the Hollywood mess. If I was host, I'd have Wheel tape on C-Island. :)

Genyo Takeda I remember being an avid fan of Indiana Jones, and somewhere where the link was made between the bowling balls in Chapter 5 and Genyo's fondness of the series. They are very much connected. /The pink ones are a pain... same goes for pink bowling balls and pink elephants...

Definitely an Indiana Jones reference...I think he just wanted an excuse to use that bit of clipart in the ending credits.

Those red Megatons are a real nuisance, mainly because you have to hit it with your yo-yo (or shooting star, if you happen to have it) and run your butt off in order to avoid it. It only stands still for a second or two, so you have to hit it multiple times to reach the end of the corridor.
It got me a handful of times before I figured a way around it.

Reading this thread, it just hit me how StarTropics' dungeons are a lot like those japanese game shows, like Takeshi's Castle for example, with the loads of traps, sinking platforms, and other hazards. So much win. I was also puzzled by the bowling balls when I was a kid. I remember making fun of the smaller black balls, thikning they were "pool balls" compared to the gigantic one. Too bad the Crystal Skull didn't inspire Takeda to make a 3rd Startropics.

Even after all these years I STILL get tense when I have to make it passed the pink one. I mean I can get by it without dying and all...
