I loved 2 and especially 3, but I never really got into 1 for some reason; to this day it's the only one I haven't beaten. . You should be banned for that! I just had a panic attack, I didn't think that there was a person in the world who hadn't beaten it /joking It's not really an NES game but I absolutely love my pirate famicom cartridge of Super Mario Bros. 2 (J). It is such an awesome game and is tied at spot #1 on my list of favorite Mario games of all time! Since I own more than a few NES games I've run into a lot of interesting titles that only a few people know about. The top five lesser known NES games that I really recommend anyone who loves retro games gives a try are (not including Startropics since everyone here has played it): 1. The Guardian Legend 2. 1943: The Battle of Midway 3. Journey to Silius 4. Punch Out (although it has become more known since the release of Punch Out Wii...) 5. Crystalis If you still have an NES I really recommend tracking down these games! Of course you could just play them on an emulator but that's no fun, when I play NES games half of the fun comes from the retro experience! Having to put effort into getting the games to work (although luckily I've found a really great NES that almost always works on it's first or second try), playing on an old TV, and using an actual official controller!

This sort of has to do with NES. Awhile back I tried out the original Metal Gear for NES, and to my dismay, I thought it sucked. AVGN did a show on it saying how much it sucked. Then he mentioned that it wasn't what Hideo Kojima had envisioned when he made the MSX version, so I thought, I'll try the MSX version. I downloaded an emulator, got the rom, and started playing. Turns out, this is actually a legit game. The NES version does not do it the most justice, because I'm really enjoying playing it.
I don't know if anyone else is a Metal Gear series fan, but if you are, definately give Metal Gear on MSX a look.

- Megaman 6 (Kind of an odd choice) I don't think that Megaman 6 is an odd choice. I know that people usually either like 2 or 3 the most although like you, I also prefer another game (4 is my favorite). I've also been playing River City Ransom a lot lately. Even though I've been it a ton of times it's still a fun game to play through again and again, especially if you have a friend to play with you ;D.

Ah... the NES. Hands down one of my favorite systems.
When I was a kid, my favorite games were (aside from StarTropics):
-Little Nemo: The Dream Master -Adventure Island -Ninja Gaiden 1 -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game -G.I.Joe: The Atlantis Factor.
And of course, the Super Mario Bros Trilogy and any Megaman game.
Other brilliant NES games I never owned but I fell in love with these past years:
-Blaster Master (I used to watch a friend play it back then, so I gave it a shot last year) -Bionic Commando (the concept of platformer without jumping sounded terrible... until I tried it out) -Punch Out!

Nice choices! And don't worry, no one is going to scold you for bumping a 2 year old thread here. I played through the Guardian Legend again recently, it really is an awesome game. Be sure to check it out if you're a fan on arcade shooters and Zelda style adventure!

I just looked it on Youtube... I want it right now! A mix of my two favorite types of games ;D Thanks.
EDIT: WOW! This game is great! For now, I can't beat the boss of the corridor #3. I will need a lot of perseverance.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of my favorites, second only to StarTropics.
Double Dragon II is also great. I think it's the best of the three on the NES.
Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers. Ridiculously short and easy, but still loads of fun. The sequel is even better.
Duck Tales. Another easy Disney game from Capcom, but it never gets old.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game.

I was also partial to Super Mario 3, Kirbys Adventure, Contra, and Shatterhand as a kid. And I still love to replay them today, too!
