Right now, I'm playing Super Contra, Castlevania 1, and Mother 1. Super Contra: What can I say... Contra is badass. Awesome music, a good challenge, but doesn't seem impossible, so it makes you want to keep playing. Fun weapons, 2P Co-op. And you blast ALIENS with a Schwartzeneger look-alike. Castlevania 1: I have never played Castlevania in my LIFE. I was starting to feel bad about it, since everyone tells me I'm missing out... But the game is CRUEL! It's too hard.. but I'm managing somehow. Mother 1: No matter how many times I looked back to when I played Mother 2, I couldn't see what EVERYONE saw in that game.. To be honest, it was a rather boring experience... But the fans are still out there claiming it's one of the best RPGs EVAH! So I decided to give it another chance... And I mean give the WHOLE franchise a chance. Starting with the game that started it all. So far, it's a rather neutral experience. I mean, yes, it's revolutionary in the sense that modern RPGs usually take place in medieval times.. (but, would I miss it?). The music is AWESOME. I can't deny that. It's one of the reasons that I haven't turned away from this game yet. The graphics are pretty for the NES (unlike Mother 2's plainness compared to other SNES games). NPCs say funny stuff.. Random encounters are VERY random. Sometimes I'm attacked every 2 steps, while other times I'm attacked every 30-40 something. Battle system is boring as hell... I'm sorry but I always found this part of the game to be the weakest point. But at least the enemy designs are awesome. And I can't help but simle everytime I encounter a Hippy with his own battle-theme song. Boss fights are interesting, but grinding is HELL. Puzzles are averagely hard so far. And that's good. I hate RPGs with almost unsolveable puzzles. So, what are you guys playinga ATM?

Heh, that list seems very familiar... Recently, I just beat Castlevania 2, Final Fantasy 2 (that's the SNES FF2, mind you) and Ninja Gaiden. I'm now currently working on Super Contra (I beat the original Contra some time ago), Metroid, Castlevania 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, and Final Fantasy 3 (SNES again). I haven't yet decided though whether or not the biggest thrill with all of these games has been my years-long hunt in finding them, actually finding them and being able to play them myself, or actually beating them. I'll report my findings (if I find any) at a later point...

Here is my extremely weird list of things that I'm currently playing ;D. 1943 Kai for the PC EngineMy PC Engine finally arrived in the mail today which meant that I finally got to play a game that's been sitting in my collection for over a year but was previously unplayable. In my opinion 1943 Kai is one of the greatest games ever because of it's awesome soundtrack and insane difficulty (I love hard games . Cross Edge for the PS3This is a really interesting game that combines characters from a whole bunch of different JRPG series into one game. I'm paying the price though for playing through the game on hard mode so it may be a while before I beat it . Evolution Eternal Dungeon for the Neo Geo PocketThe Evolution series of RPGs is similar to the Startropics series in the way that it just suddenly died out after its second game. Fortunately Evolution 1 had a remake for the Neo Geo pocket that has been keeping me busy during long car rides ;D. Super Mario Bros. 2 for the FamicomI was lucky enough to find a SMB2J pirate cart at a video game swap meet that I attended a few months ago. This is probably the greatest 2D Mario game of all time as I can play though it over and over again and it never gets old Moai Kun for the FamicomI actually just finished playing this one. It's probably the best platforming puzzle game that I've ever played. Big Guns Pinball MachineThis is the greatest pinball machine that I have ever played. It includes everything from a multi-level playing field to the ability to have up to three balls on the play field at once. I still haven't beaten the high score set by the previous owner though . There may be a few other games that I'm forgetting about .

I just finished working through Final Fantasy XII...which is my favorite of the few that I've played thus far. I loved the real-time battle system as well as the Mist Attacks. I'm now re-playing Kingdom Hearts II...What can I say? I'm a sucker for that series...it's like a guilty pleasure I also play Mario Kart DS and Wii a decent amount with my wife. ;D

Oh, also throw in Okami and Ghostbusters for the Wii on my list too. Ghostbusters rocks, of course, and Okami... wow... may be, at this point, one of the most overlooked games in the past decade. Everything, and I MEAN EVERYTHING, about the game is just stunningly beautiful. It should've sold a lot more than what it did...

I'm not playing video games as much as studying about them, but I'm currently playing these video game titles with this new peripheral I got yesterday: ==MAME==Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Yes, there is an arcade version of it, and it's different compared to its Genesis/Mega Drive, Master System and Game Gear counterparts. The "Dance Magic" moves look much better than MJ's dance moves seen in the home console versions. After MJ's death, I started playing and beat this game twice in one sitting using two different ways: keyboard for the first time and Magic Joy Box with GCN controller for the second time. I wish SEGA would put it on the Virtual Console along with the Genesis/Mega Drive version.) Sheriff (One of Nintendo's earliest games. It plays great with the GameCube controller's Control Stick for moving the Sheriff around and its C-Stick for pointing the pistol in eight different directions.) Street Fighter: The Movie (I hear a lot of people say that this is an infamous game based on an infamous movie based on a popular game. I'm not very good at fighting games with complex controls like this, but I'm trying this out to see if there's anything wrong with it's game play. I hear most people just didn't want this game to exist. This makes me wish for more SFTM versions of the characters to be converted to M.U.G.E.N, including Sawada (although the home console version of him is available) and Blade, who are SFTM exclusives.) ==Nintendo DS==The Legendary Starfy (This is the localized English version of the fifth Starfy game in the series titled "Densetsu no Starfy: Taiketsu! Daiiru Kaizokudan". I haven't been playing it much, although I'm a fan of the series. Most people are saying it's too easy, but it's still fun. It's designed for the youngest audience, as well as those who prefer games that are easy and fun.) Pokemon Diamond and Platinum (I'm not very much of a Pokemon fan, but the main reason why I bought these are the special downloads (e.g. Shaymin, Regigigas, Secret Key), so that if my interest in the Pokemon series returns, then the special downloads would make them more fun. I also bought them so I can have more fun with a friend of mine from Guatemala, Johans' Nidorino, who is also a Pokemon expert. I haven't gotten far in any of these two lately.) Kurikin: Nano Island Story (At GameTrailers, many people were like "What the freak?" and "What are the odd Japanese thinking?". According to VGChartz, this game didn't sell well enough, making it a Japan-only game. They say it's a Pokemon rip-off, but it's not. Although, it's about collecting, training and monster-battling action, it's not turn-based. It was developed by MediaKite and published by Nintendo. All you do is circle your whole group of bacteria or parts of them, then draw a line from the center of the circle to where ever you want them to move toward. You also can circle them, then blow into the microphone to make them scatter so they can reproduce. I wrote the Wikipedia article about it, but it still needs some work, like adding citations, reception and a few others.) ==Virtual Console==Super Punch-Out!! (Super NES) (I haven't gotten passed Mr. Sandman yet. I've never beaten it before, but I'm working on it. Every time I think of it, this question pops up in my mind a lot: Is the protagonist really Little Mac? Most fans and Bryce Holliday (one of the Punch-Out!! Wii developers) say there is no Little Mac in the Super Punch-Out!! universe. However, Nintendo of America kept telling the fans that he is Little Mac. When he appeared in EA's Fight Night Round 2 for the GCN, he was referred to as "Little Mac", but fans thought EA was responsible for naming him that. NoA actually added him there along with adding the Mario characters in the GCN versions of other EA games like NBA Street V3 and SSX on Tour. Later, he was referred to as Little Mac again in the Wii Shop details for the game in North America and Europe, at the Official Nintendo Magazine (UK) website, and in the History section of the Punch-Out!! Wii's website, but fans believe it's a retcon, while it has the same effect as Rareware saying the Arcade DK is Cranky Kong and the DKC DK is DK Jr., while Yoshi's Island DS messed it up. So, what's required to make the fans believe the SNES boxer is Little Mac? Genyo Takeda and his partner, Makoto Wada, the creators of the Punch-Out!! and StarTropics series?) Vigilante (TurboGrafx-16) (This was the first TurboGrafx-16 game I've ever played, which is an arcade port of the spiritual successor to the arcade version of Kung-Fu Master, better known on the NES simply as Kung-Fu. Some people thought it was a clone, but both, Vigilante and Kung-Fu Master are developed by Irem. During my first try, I lost against the third boss, who's probably named "Hammer Thrower Gool" according to the back of the European/Japanese Vigilante arcade flyer.) Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II (NES) (I haven't beat it, yet, but I'm adjacent. I'm at the beginning of the boss roll call part before the final boss: Zoda-Z. Pretty soon, Europe will be able to download and play this game for the first time, which they got the first one, but they never got the sequel.) There's more to come, but not right now, because I got some tasks to work on.

And now ladies and gentlemen: An update that's sure to amuse, confuse, diffuse, and probably cause me eventually to recluse... As I said a couple posts above, I was in the middle of playing FF3 for the SNES. Over the course of the past few months, according to the game's clock, I had logged about 73 hours on the thing, in just playing it and strengthening my characters as much as my patience would allow... *You can tell this isn't ending well.* I proceed, tonight, to turn on the game, and am met with a black screen with some red blocks, which points to the game being dirty. After taking it out and putting it back in... to my shock... I find ALL my saved data... GONE... all 73 hours, and just as I was about to enter the last region... GONE... This means I must start over, from the game's very beginning, as all the save slots I had included for insurance were also erased, not just the one I was recently playing... You may send any condolences, if you feel I need them and am that unstable, via PM, if you so desire. For now, excuse me while I go mope in a dark corner...

Poor Coralcola.. I know how it feels...
But trust me, that's little compared to losing your data on the old Pokemon Gold/Silver cartidges. Because it wasn't the time spent playing Gold/Silver that was affected only..
No sir.. Most people had probably transferred their Pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow. In my case, I transferred EVERYTHING.. So when my Silver save file got corrupted... I lost over 20 Lvl-100 Pokemon.. over 400 hours of combined gameplay.. and my Pokemon fandom died right there as well.

Updatez!
I have beaten Super Contra on the NES. God, that last level was hard! Stupid collapsing ceiling took 3 of my energy badges.. down to 0 against the final boss.
I am now facing Mother 1's final boss... I'm peeing my pants.. the guy is so bastardly POWERFUL that he damages my party by merely TALKING to them! I guess levels 27, 24 and 20 is too little to beat this guy..
I gave up on Castlevania 1. Dracula was bad news enough for there to be a TRANSFORMATION that takes so much space, and Simon's little mobility in that game.

This isn't the first time it's happened either in recent history (for me). A few months back, actually right before I started going through FF3, I was near the end of Zelda: Link to the Past, had gotten the 3 crystals and released all the maidens except Zelda, when the game proceeds to do the SAME EXACT THING. I had to start over on that one too. The good news is though, I've had the chance to get back to where I was before, and now am about to face Ganondorf... I think... You have to get lucky, lemme tell yah. You also have to be perfectly accurate, just about. When I beat it, I had to take no damage during his first phase, and had to be exceedingly patient with the second. I had one health bar left when he kissed my feet... If you ever get around to play CV 2, maybe you'll think better of it. The game itself is MUCH longer, more RPG styled, and Dracula, quite frankly, is pushover. The challenge in it though IS getting to him... which... depending on your patience, might be even worse than trying to get him in CV 1...

I have always been afraind of Castlevania 2, not only because the fact that there was NIGHT creeped me out when I was a kid (still, I loved the music), but because of the whole quest thing. I was never a big fan of searching the world over for stuff to help you progress..
I guess the hatred comes from constantly losing my things and having to look all around the house for them. LOL.

I finished Mother 1 last night. The boss got a little bit easier after I leveled up some more.. Mother 1 = beautiful game.
Now I just started Mother 2 (Earthbound), and perhaps I was mellowed by the first game, but I don't recall chuckling as much over the game jokes as I did almost 10 years ago when I first played it. (wow... 10 years already... where does time go!?).
So I think I'm enjoying the game a bit more this time, my opinion on it might already be changing. Dang... 10-11 years ago I started playing the RPG genre with Chrono Trigger, Pokemon, FFVII and Earthbound.. Great times back then...

My SNES games erase on me all of the time, unlike my NES games which have never erased once (just watch, next time I go to play ST my save data will probably be gone ). I've had all three Donkey Kong games erase on me (My files on each of them were 101%, 102%, and 103%, each of which I've actually gotten back numerous times due to the fact that they keep erasing ), Super Mario World has also done it (I've lost a few saves that had all 96 exits). Luckily none of my RPGs have erased yet, FF2, FF Mystic Quest, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and Secret of Mana all appear to be ok...for now .

I had the same problem with Metroid: Zero Mission. I had a save state without the Ice Beam equipped, but with the Wave Beam equipped. The farthest I've gotten with at least one Energy Tank and one Missile Tank was at Meta Ridley.
My copy of Kirby Canvas Curse got its memory erased, but strangely, it returned the next time I turned it on.

It's strange to me too, it didn't happen to me with FF2, Mystic Quest, SMW, or Yoshi's Island... but... I dunno. Not one of my NES's did such to me, either, over these past 20 years, it's really strange how that is... Either way, it'll be interesting, knowing what I do now that I managed to get that far, to see how I'll do things differently going through the game again *just like any game you replay to any extent.* /Oh yeah, and yes, the music to CV 2, like the other CV's, rox da houz. EDIT: Since we're talking about all these old games, a little random thing I just found: onceuponawin.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/perler_bead_art.jpg?w=500&h=345

I'm a disgrace...
I've wasted one whole day HOOKED on Earthbound! I can't ever again dare to say that this game was "boring" to me. One whole day, doing nothing but playing this thing... I feel bad... PowerGlove-bad. u_u This'll definitely have some sort of recoil soon.
But what can I say.. There's no boring moment in this game, so far. Except that pesky photographer interrupting the action whenever things start to get even more interesting.
I forgot to mention I just got onto Metroid Prime 1... but I hate looking for stuff... Argghh, in 3D! I'm not good at quests.. at all. (I've been playing Metroid Prime Hunters for the last 3 years, and my progress is stuck at 30%)

I've actually been kickin' it retro with my copy of Pokemon: Red Version on my Game Boy Color. I've already technically beat the game twice, so now it's just a matter of beating the Elite Four just for kicks and giggles.
