So a few months ago I became interested in this franchise... Must've been because it was made by Genyo Takeda or maybe it was my thirst to try something new. In any case, I've become semi-obsessed with this game, and boxing in general. And I finally beat Mike Tyson in the Nes game a few months ago. To add up even more, I started watching Hajime no Ippo, a boxing anime, and have become even more obsessed with the whole thing. Maybe it's just me trying to relieve the pain of having Little Mac as an AT in Brawl, but Right now, I love the Punch Out series so much.. I think I'm liking it a lot more than I did Kid Icarus and Elite Beat Agents.. Which means, Punch Out is now my 2nd favorite Nintendo game (1st being the obvious). So I've been researching a little, and found out that this franchise has 4 games! (5 if you include Mr. Dream). And is one of the games with MOST cameos! Animal Crossing... Fight Night Round... Warioware.. Tingle's Rosey Rupeeland... And not just cameos in other games but cameos in actual shows and movies as well!! This franchise is a jewel! And it was made by none other than Takeda! It makes me sick, that all the representation Punch Out gets in brawl is an assist trophy! Investigating a bit, I came across the first name of the music composer from Startropics II. T. Kumegawa stands for Takashi Kumegawa. Now if only we knew what Y.Hirai's "Y" stands for.. (probably Yuji as it's the most common name starting with Y...) Right now I'm playing Super Punch Out! Awesome game, can't get my hands of it. Anybody else a fan of Punch Out!?

I don't own any Punch Out games, but I do know how popular the series remains and how much name recognizition it holds, even after all these years. It is quite impressive. BTW shinigami, is "Hajime No Ippo" a manga written by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha creator)? There's a series about boxing I know she's completed relatively recently, but the name escapes me at the moment... If not, maybe you'd be interested in reading that one as well...

The Punch-Out!! series and the TMNT series have a few things in common: - Their first versions didn't catch much attention, because they were some kinds of things that many children weren't interested in. The Punch-Out!! series started out in the arcades, but many children would rather play video games at home than sorting quarters in the arcades. TMNT started as a comic series, which many children weren't very good readers back then and thought that animations were more interesting than comics.
- In 1987, around the same time, when the Punch-Out!! series got into NES business, while the TMNT series got into animation business for their first time, they were quite different compared to their predecessors. When many people think of the Punch-Out!! series and the TMNT series, they'll always think of the first home console and animations of the series.
- When the SNES Super Punch-Out!! came out, many people were like "Where's King Hippo, Doc Louis and Little Mac? Why did you change Piston Honda to Piston Hurricane?". And when the 2003 TMNT came out, many people were like "Where's Bebop, Rock Steady and Krang? Why did you change Baxtar the Fly to Baxtar the African-American scientist?" The SNES Super Punch-Out!!'s gameplay was based on the arcade versions, while the 2003 TMNT was based on the earliest TMNT comics. Piston Hurricane was the original "Piston" boxer, while the African-American Baxtar Stockman was the original Baxtar.
I prefer the SNES Super Punch-Out!! and the 2003 TMNT series.

CoralcolaNah, Hajime no Ippo is a bit on the old side, and Rumiko's work is easy to recognize. I didn't know she was working on a boxing anime, that's interesting! As far as I know, the creator of Saint Seiya/Knights of the Zodiac made a boxing anime called "Ring ni Kakera", though it's kinda weird... it's practically Saint Seiya on a boxing ring lol. I'll look into the one you mentioned, though. A stupid little coincidence, Hajime no Ippo's main character's name is Ippo Makunouchi. Hmm... MAKunouchi (Mac) Ippo (Hippo... King Hippo?) lol. I know, I know.. it's stupid. ^_^; @parrothead Those are neat comparisons. It's sad when they drift from the original versions to give the series new content.. But anyway, I still love Super Punch Out!. The only thing that throws me off is, the fact that Glass Joe is Jay's trainer.. shouldn't Glass Joe be REALLY old then? Then why does it look like Bald Bull hasn't aged a day since the original game? O,o? Not sayi'ng an old guy couldn't have a younger trainer.. but it's just not natural. (Then again, they're the weakest boxers, so hence the results) XD Now I want to get my hands on EA's Fight Night Round. BTW, Parrothead, is there an official name for the Snes game's main character? I know he's based on the wireframe boxer... just wondering if in the manual any name is mentioned...

Many people are saying that the protagonist (or main character) of the SNES Super Punch-Out!! has no official name. Even though he appeared in the GCN version of Fight Night Round 2 as "Mac" or "Little Mac", people still don't believe it, not even FryGuy64 of Nintendo Database. FlipTroopa's at the Nintendo Database forum, and he is the one supporting Takamaru, Sukapon/Skapon, Mike Jones and several other Nintendo characters. Right now, I contacted Nester at the Nintendo Database forum and asked him if he would send scans of the SNES Super Punch-Out!! instruction booklet, if he has them.

lol I've seen screenshots where he looks kinda creepy too. Anyway, that would help a lot. I mean... even LINK had a name when he was nameable... This guy should have a name.. or a nickname hidden in the manual.. (Unless the manual refers to the boxer as "you". Wouldn't surprise me coming from the R&D3, making games as interactive with the player as possible)
